1) Can I tap into an existing 4 inch PVC drain line without cutting it out?
That's exactly what the Oatey 43795 saddle tee kit is for. It taps into a 3 in. or 4 in. Schedule 40 DWV line: you cut the hole in the existing pipe, solvent weld the saddle to the line, then clamp it down with the metal V-bolts, washers and nuts that come in the kit. No need to cut out a section of pipe and rebuild it with a full wye or tee.
2) What comes in the Oatey 43795 saddle tee kit and what do I still have to buy?
The kit includes the saddle tee itself plus the V-bolts, washers and nuts that clamp it to the pipe. You supply the pipe, the PVC solvent cement and primer, and whatever fitting or line runs into the outlet. PVC pipe is not included.
3) Is a saddle tee OK for a pressurized line, or drain only?
Drain, waste and vent only. The 43795 saddle tee is rated for working pressure up to 10 PSI, which is gravity drainage territory. Do not put it on a water supply, irrigation main, or any pressurized PVC run - use a proper solvent weld tee or a compression coupling with a full tee for that.
4) Will the Oatey 43795 work on a cast iron drain line?
It can, but not on its own. The saddle is PVC and solvent welds to PVC; to put it on cast iron you need a conversion gasket, which is not part of the kit. On PVC the saddle bonds directly and the V-bolts do the mechanical hold.
5) What size branch can I run off this saddle tee?
The outlet is 4 in., matching the 4 in. run it mounts on. The tee accepts the incoming line inside the socket, or you can join to it with a Schedule 40 DWV fitting. If you need a smaller branch, reduce downstream of the saddle rather than expecting the outlet to take it.
6) Does this Oatey saddle tee fit a 3 inch line as well as 4 inch?
The 43795 is built for tapping a 3 in. or 4 in. Schedule 40 DWV line, with a 4 in. outlet. If your branch needs to be 3 in., the saddle still lands on the main run but the outlet stays 4 in., so plan a reducer on the branch side.
