OATEY 33855 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do these cable ties meet a military specification?
Yes. The Oatey nylon ties meet Military standard MS3367-1 for dimensions and Military standard M-20693 for material. That is the spec reference to put on a submittal if the drawing calls for MIL-spec ties.
2) Will a 48 inch tie wrap a large pipe or conduit bundle in one pass?
At 48 inches of strap length, one tie goes around a sizeable bundle of conduit, PEX, or low-voltage cable in a single wrap instead of daisy-chaining two shorter ties. The locking head is a one-way device that grips without slipping once pulled tight, so the bundle stays at the tension you set.
3) What color are the Oatey 33855 48 inch ties, and does the color vary by length?
Color follows length in the Oatey nylon tie line: the 48 inch tie, model 33855, is gray, while the 7 inch through 36 inch sizes are natural. If you are matching a run already installed with natural ties, the 48 inch will not match visually.
4) Are the Oatey 33855 ties reusable or do I cut them off?
The head uses a one-way locking pawl that gives a positive, non-slip grip, so these are single-use ties: once tightened they are cut off to remove. If you need to open a bundle repeatedly for service access, use a releasable strap instead of a locking nylon tie.
5) What is the shipping weight on the Oatey 33855 tie pack?
Oatey lists a product weight of 0.375 lbs and a volume of 0.061 for the 33855. Light enough that it rides along with a larger plumbing order without affecting freight class.
