OATEY 78026 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size pipe does the Oatey 78026 roof drain connect to?
The Oatey 78026 is a 6 inch PVC roof drain, so it is made to tie into 6 inch PVC drainage pipe. Plan the roof deck opening and the leader line below for 6 inch PVC solvent weld work rather than a reducing connection at the drain itself.
2) Does the Oatey 78026 roof drain come with a strainer dome, or is that bought separately?
The dome is included. The 78026 ships as a PVC roof drain body with a cast iron dome strainer, so you are not sourcing the strainer as a separate line item.
3) Why a cast iron dome on a plastic roof drain instead of an all plastic one?
Cast iron takes foot traffic and impact on a flat roof far better than a molded plastic strainer, which is why the 78026 pairs a PVC body with a cast iron dome. For a commercial roof where crews walk near the drain during service or re-roofing, that combination gives you a corrosion resistant body with a dome that will not crack underfoot. If you want an all metal assembly instead, that is a cast iron drain body, not this one.
4) Is the Oatey 78026 a main roof drain or an overflow drain?
It is a primary roof drain, a 6 inch PVC body with a cast iron dome strainer that collects and carries roof water down into the leader. An overflow or secondary drain is a separate item, typically set with a standpipe or a raised dam so it only carries water when the primary backs up.
5) How heavy is the Oatey 78026 roof drain for a single man lift onto the roof?
It weighs 10.3 pounds complete, dome included. That is a one hand carry up a ladder, and light enough that a couple of crew can stage several drains on a roof in one trip.
6) What part number do I give my supplier for the Oatey 6 inch PVC roof drain with the cast iron dome?
Order it as Oatey 78026. That is the manufacturer part number for the 6 inch PVC roof drain supplied with the cast iron dome strainer.
