OATEY 38100 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size drain connection does the Oatey 38100 washer box take?
It has 2 inch drain hubs, so it accepts 2 inch pipe at the hub. Knockout drain caps sit on both the top and the bottom of the box, so you can run the standpipe up or drop it down depending on how your drain is roughed in.
2) Do I have to install the valves on the Oatey 38100, or does it come assembled?
Model 38100 is the assembled version with quarter turn copper valves already installed. Across the Centro line the valves come either uninstalled or installed, and either way they can be mounted on the top or the bottom of the box.
3) Is the Oatey 38100 a no-hammer (water hammer arrestor) box?
The 38100 is the standard quarter turn copper assembled Centro. Centro valves are offered in both hammer and no hammer options, so if you need arrestors built into the valves you have to order the no hammer configuration rather than this model number.
4) What are the supply tailpieces on the Oatey 38100 Centro box?
38100 is the copper tailpiece version, so you solder or press to copper supply lines. Oatey builds the Centro in a range of tailpiece configurations, so if you are running something other than copper you want a different Centro model number rather than this one.
5) What is the Oatey Centro outlet box made of, and will it hold up in a rental unit laundry closet?
The box body is rigid PVC with two High Impact Polystyrene support brackets. PVC does not rust or corrode from the occasional overflow or condensation that laundry closets see, and the paintable faceplate can be refinished between tenants instead of replaced.
6) How heavy is the Oatey 38100 outlet box for a stocked truck or a bulk order?
About 2.204 pounds assembled, valves included. Light enough to carry a dozen on the truck for multi-family turns without eating into payload.
