OATEY 38530 Quadtro, 1/4 Turn, Copper Washing Machine Outlet Box – Standard Pack

Copper. The 38530 Quadtro is the copper-connection version with 1/4 turn valves, so the supply stubs are soldered. If the building is plumbed in PEX or CPVC, this is the wrong variant of the Quadtro to order and you want the matching PEX or CPVC connection version instead.

Either way. The Quadtro is built for top or bottom valve mount, so you orient it to suit how the supplies come into the wall rather than reworking the rough-in to suit the box. That flexibility is the main reason it gets specified on repeat multi-family work where the framing is not identical unit to unit.

Four support brackets ship in the box for mounting, so the rough-in needs nothing extra beyond your supply and DWV pipe, solder, and fasteners. The knockout for the 1/4 turn valves pops out without cutting tools.

The Quadtro line is offered with no-hammer valves and with plain valves, and the choice comes down to the water system, not the box. Quarter turn valves close fast, and on a high pressure supply or a long straight run that fast close is what makes the pipe bang when the washer solenoid shuts. Arrestor valves absorb that. On a low pressure system, or where arrestors are already installed on the branch, the standard valve is enough. The 38530 is the standard 1/4 turn copper configuration.

The box is high impact polystyrene in white, and the whole assembly weighs 2.45 pounds. Polystyrene will not corrode behind the wall the way a steel box can where a washer weeps, and the white faceplate is the standard laundry finish so it matches across a portfolio of units.
