1) Does the Oatey 38541 washer box have water hammer arrestors built in?
Yes, the 38541 is the hammer arrestor version of the Quadtro. That matters on quarter turn valves, which close fast enough to bang the piping when a washer solenoid shuts. Oatey builds the Quadtro in both no-hammer and hammer arrestor valve configurations, and this one is the arrestor build.
2) Do I need copper or CPVC supply lines for this Oatey Quadtro box?
This one is the CPVC build, so the valve inlets are made to be solvent welded to CPVC supply piping. If your rough-in is copper or PEX, you want the matching Quadtro version for that material rather than adapting at the box.
3) Can the valves be mounted at the top of the box instead of the bottom?
Both. The Quadtro accepts a top or bottom valve mount, so you can orient it to whichever side your supply drops come from without ordering a different box. Handy when the hot and cold come down from an overhead run in a second-floor laundry.
4) What do I order to finish a washer rough-in besides the Oatey 38541 box?
The box ships with its four mounting brackets and the snap-on faceplate frame, so the box itself is complete. What you supply is the 2 inch Sch. 40 PVC or ABS DWV drain and trap, and the CPVC hot and cold supply runs to the valve inlets. Washer hoses are not part of the box.
5) What is the Quadtro outlet box made of, and will it hold up in rental laundry rooms?
The box is high impact polystyrene, not thin vacuum-formed plastic, and the whole unit weighs about 2.75 pounds. The 1/4 turn knockout is made to pop out easily during rough-in.
