OATEY 38542 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Oatey Quadtro 38542 include a water hammer arrestor?
Yes, the 38542 is the hammer arrestor version. Quick-closing washer solenoid valves are the usual cause of banging supply lines, and the arrestors are built into this box's valves. Oatey builds the Quadtro in both no-hammer and hammer configurations, so if you are matching a previous install, the 38542 is specifically the hammer arrestor one.
2) Do I need to buy mounting brackets for the Oatey Quadtro washer box?
No. Four support brackets come with the 38542 for fastening the box to framing. What is not included is the 2 inch DWV drain pipe and your PEX supply tubing with crimp rings, plus the P-trap assembly behind the wall.
3) Can the valves on the Oatey 38542 be mounted at the bottom of the box instead of the top?
Yes, the Quadtro supports top or bottom valve mounting, so you can orient it to suit where the supplies come into the bay. Bottom mount is common when supplies run up from a crawl space or basement.
4) How do the hoses get through the face of the Oatey 38542 washer box?
There is an easy-to-remove 1/4 turn knockout in the face, so you pop it out on site rather than cutting the plastic. The box is white, which matches typical laundry wall finishes without painting.
5) Is the Oatey 38542 outlet box durable enough for a multi-family laundry closet?
The box is molded high impact polystyrene and weighs 2.9 pounds, with four steel support brackets to tie it solidly to the studs. For fleets of units, the 38542 standardizes well because every unit gets the same F1807 crimp supply and 2 inch DWV drain, so stock one box and one set of fittings across the property.
