2) Can this step light be installed outdoors in an exposed exterior stair?
Yes. The P6802-31 is UL-CUL listed for wet locations, so direct exposure to rain and washdown is within its listing. The housing is die-cast aluminum with a black painted finish and clear glass, which is what holds up in exterior masonry stairs and entry walls.
3) What size rough opening do I need for the Progress P6802-31 step light?
Size the pocket off the fixture body: 8.5 in width, 3.25 in height, 3.5 in depth. It is built to drop into standard brick coursing, which is why it works in brick, masonry and poured concrete as well as wood framing. In a concrete pour, block out the cavity before the pour rather than coring after.
4) Does this step light plug in or does it need to be wired by an electrician?
Hardwired only, at 120V. There is no cord or plug. The fixture arrives prewired, so the electrician is splicing leads to the branch circuit rather than building out a socket assembly on site.
