Orbit SSB-T5 Telescoping Simple Support Bracket, Galvanized Steel

The Orbit SSB-T5 Telescoping Simple Support Bracket is a galvanized sheet steel bracket engineered to fit 4", 4-11/16", or 5" electrical boxes, with a telescoping design that expands from 15" to 25" to accommodate a range of framing widths. Built for electricians and contractors who need a fast, adjustable way to mount electrical boxes between studs or joists, this bracket eliminates the need for custom cutting or multiple fixed-length brackets on the job. The galvanized sheet steel construction resists corrosion and provides the rigidity required to hold boxes securely in place during rough-in and long-term service.

Key Features

  • Box Compatibility: Fits standard 4", 4-11/16", or 5" electrical boxes for versatile use across common box sizes.
  • Telescoping Adjustability: Expands from 15" to 25", allowing a single bracket to span varying stud and joist spacing without cutting.
  • Durable Construction: Made from galvanized sheet steel for corrosion resistance and long-term structural strength.
  • Simple Support Design: Straightforward bracket profile designed for quick, secure installation between framing members.
  • Job-Site Efficiency: One adjustable bracket replaces multiple fixed-size supports, reducing inventory and installation time.

Orbit SSB-T5 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Orbit SSB-T5 bracket span 16-inch on-center stud bays, and what about 24-inch framing?
Both. The SSB-T5 telescopes from 15 inches out to 25 inches, so it covers the roughly 14-1/2 inch clear opening of 16-inch on-center framing and the roughly 22-1/2 inch clear opening of 24-inch on-center framing with one part. That range is why one bracket replaces a stack of fixed-length supports on a rough-in truck.
2) Do I need to cut or modify the Orbit SSB-T5 to mount a box between joists?
No cutting. The bracket telescopes to length between the framing members and fastens off, which is the point of the design, and it keeps the box rigid through rough-in and over the life of the install. Fasteners go into the framing the same way you would secure any bar hanger.
3) Is the SSB-T5 suitable for ceiling boxes as well as wall boxes?
Yes, Orbit lists both ceiling and wall electrical box support among its applications, along with new-construction rough-in and remodel work. For a ceiling box carrying a paddle fan or a heavy luminaire, verify the fixture's own support requirements, since those are set by the fixture and the box rather than by the bracket.
4) For a renovation where the stud bay is already closed on one side, is a telescoping bracket the right choice over a fixed bar hanger?
A telescoping bracket like the SSB-T5 is for spanning between two accessible framing members, stud to stud or joist to joist, anywhere from 15 to 25 inches apart. If you can only reach one framing member, or the opening is wider than 25 inches, a bar hanger will not help you either, you want a side-mount box bracket or blocking instead.
5) Can I use a telescoping box bracket in a damp or unconditioned space like a garage or attic?
The SSB-T5 is galvanized sheet steel, so it resists corrosion in unconditioned framing cavities, garages, attics and crawl spaces. It is a framing-cavity support, not a wet-location enclosure, so the box and fittings still have to carry the location rating for the install.
6) What is the exact part number to order the Orbit telescoping simple support bracket?
Order Orbit SSB-T5. It is a single configuration, galvanized steel, catalogued at the 4 inch size reference, covering 4 inch through 5 inch boxes. There is no handing, finish or length choice to specify.
