Pamex DD091035SN – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Pamex DD09-1035 push plate meet ANSI/BHMA A156.6?
The DD09-1035 is built to ANSI/BHMA A156.6, which is the standard covering architectural door trim including push and pull plates. Worth knowing before you spec it for a facility: Pamex classifies this one as residential duty, so for a high traffic institutional opening a heavy duty plate is the better call.
2) What finishes does the Pamex DD09-1035 push plate come in, and will it match my existing door hardware?
Four finishes: 622 matte black, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 605 bright brass, and 619 satin nickel. Those are BHMA finish numbers, so if your existing levers or hinges are marked 613 or 619 the plate will match them across brands. If the rest of the opening is 626 satin chrome or 630 stainless, none of these four is a match.
3) Do I need a push plate or a pull plate on my door?
A push plate like the Pamex DD09-1035 is a flat brass plate with no handle, for the side you push. It protects the door face from hand and cart contact and gives you nothing to grip. A pull plate has a handle mounted to the plate, for the side you pull. On a single-acting door you typically use both, push side and pull side. If you need the pull, look at a pull plate such as the Delaney 3-1/2 x 15 inch Door Pull Plate, which is the same footprint in the pull version.
4) Is this Pamex push plate heavy duty enough for an apartment building corridor or a school?
No. Pamex classes the DD09-1035 as residential, and at 0.05 inches thick it is a light gauge plate suited to apartment unit doors, offices, and interior residential openings. For a corridor taking carts and constant traffic, go to a heavy duty plate such as the Ives 8302 with through bolt mounting or the Trimco 1010 Series cast plate, both of which we carry as heavy duty.
5) What is the closest alternative to a Pamex DD09-1035 push plate in the same 3-1/2 by 15 inch size?
The Delaney 3-1/2" x 15" Push Plate, DLY-4905xx, is the direct size-for-size counterpart to the Pamex DD09-1035. Both are push plates measuring 3-1/2 inches by 15 inches, so a plate swapped between them covers the same footprint on the stile and the same area of the door face. The Pamex plate is solid brass and offered in matte black, oil rubbed bronze, bright brass, and satin nickel.
6) I need a larger push plate than 3-1/2 by 15 inches for a wide commercial stile. What size up is available?
Step up to the Delaney 4" x 16" Push Plate, DLY-490xxx. It gives a half inch more width and an inch more height than the Pamex DD09-1035's 3-1/2 by 15 inch plate, which helps when the door has a wide stile or you want a bigger contact area for carts and gloved hands. Confirm the stile face is wide enough for the 4 inch plate before ordering.
7) What do I put on the pull side of the door if the Pamex DD09-1035 is on the push side?
A push plate is a flat plate with no handle, so it only serves the side of the door that is pushed open. For the pull side, the Delaney 3-1/2" x 15" Door Pull Plate, DLY-4900xx, matches the Pamex DD09-1035 footprint at 3-1/2 by 15 inches and adds a grip. If you moved up to the 4 by 16 inch size, the matching pull is the Delaney DLY-490xx0 4" x 16" Door Pull Plate. Order a plate for each side to finish the opening.
8) Is the Pamex DD09-1035 push plate the right choice for a high-traffic commercial entry, or should I specify something heavier?
The Pamex DD09-1035 is classified for residential use. For a heavy traffic opening, the Ives 8302 Pull Plate with through bolt mounting and the Ives 8303 Pull Plate with 8 inch or 10 inch center-to-center mounting are both rated heavy duty, as are the Trimco 1010, 1012, and 1013 cast pull plates. Through bolting, as on the Ives 8302, carries pull loads to the far face of the door rather than relying on screws in the door skin alone.
9) Is the Pamex DD09-1035 push plate solid brass or plated steel?
Solid brass, not plated steel or brass-finished aluminum. That matters on the finishes that wear: on 605 bright brass and 619 satin nickel, the base material underneath is brass throughout, so an edge scuff does not expose a different colored metal the way a plated steel plate does. It also means the plate will not rust in a humid entry or bathroom door application.
10) What is an equivalent 3-1/2 x 15 push plate if the Pamex is not the right finish?
The Delaney 3-1/2 x 15 inch Push Plate is the direct same-size alternative, so the drilling and coverage on the door face are identical. If you want a larger plate for more hand coverage, Delaney also does a 4 x 16 inch Push Plate, and for a decorative entry the Emtek Modern and Emtek Knoxville push and pull plate sets cover both sides of the door in one series.
11) Will a push plate work on a door that already has an exit device?
A general purpose plate like the 3-1/2 x 15 inch Pamex covers bare door face and is not made to mount over a panic bar or its trim. If the opening has a Detex Value Series exit device, use the Detex P/PN Series Pull Plate, which is built to go with that device. Otherwise you risk fastener conflict with the device chassis.
12) Can I use the same push plate on both sides of a door, and does handing matter?
Handing is not a factor. The DD09-1035 is a symmetrical flat brass rectangle, 3-1/2 by 15 inches, with no handle, so it mounts the same on a left hand or right hand door and can go on either face. Order one per face you want protected. If you want a grip on the pull side, pair it with a matching pull plate instead of a second push plate.
13) Can a Pamex DD09-1035 push plate be used on a door with an exit device?
No. A door with a Detex Value Series exit device takes the Detex P/PN Series pull plate, DTX-01P, which is made to work with that device family. The Pamex DD09-1035 is a plain 3-1/2 by 15 inch push plate with no relationship to exit device trim, so it will not serve as its substitute on a device-equipped opening.
14) What is the difference between the Pamex DD09-1035 and the Trimco pull plates with a center-to-center dimension?
The center-to-center figure on a Trimco plate is the spacing of the pull handle mounted to it: the Trimco 1010 Series cast pull plate is 5 inch CTC, the Trimco 1012 cast tapered plate and Trimco 1013 round plate are both 5.5 inch CTC, and the Trimco 1014 Series half-round plate is 6 inch CTC. The Pamex DD09-1035 has no CTC dimension because it is a push plate, a flat solid brass plate with nothing to grip. If a drawing calls out a CTC, it is asking for a pull, not a push plate.
15) How thin is this push plate, and will it clear the door stop or a closer arm?
Projection off the door face is 0.05 inches, so the plate sits nearly flush. It will not foul a door stop, a closer arm, or a gasketed frame, and on a pair of doors it will not interfere at the meeting stile. That flatness is also why it does not catch on clothing or carts.
