Pamex DD0930634BT – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Pamex DD09-30 kick plate solid brass or bronze, or is the finish just a coating?
The plate is aluminum, anodized. The 613 oil rubbed bronze and BT satin brass options are anodized finishes on aluminum, not solid brass or bronze stock. That keeps the plate light and non-rusting, but it also means the color is a surface finish, so if you are matching an existing solid brass plate expect a color match rather than an identical material.
2) Is this Pamex kick plate rated for commercial door traffic or is it a residential plate?
Pamex classes the DD09-30 as residential. It meets ANSI/BHMA A156.6, the architectural door trim standard, but at 0.05 inches of aluminum it is a light-gauge plate suited to apartment, condo, and house doors. For a hospital corridor, school, or loading area where carts strike the door, a stainless steel plate such as the Hager 190S or the Ives 8400 Series door protection plate is the heavier option.
3) Can I put a kick plate on a fire rated door?
Do not use the DD09-30 on a labeled fire door. It is a residential-classed aluminum plate and carries no fire label. Fire door assemblies limit protection plate height above the bottom of the door and require listed hardware, so specify a plate carrying that listing instead.
4) What finishes does the Pamex DD09-30 aluminum kick plate come in?
Four: 622 matte black, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 619 satin nickel, and BT satin brass. Every one of those is offered in all three sizes, 6 x 34, 8 x 34, and 10 x 34, so you can match a corridor of doors in one finish and still vary the coverage height door to door.
5) What is the difference between the Pamex DD09-30 aluminum kick plate and a stainless steel plate like the Hager 190S or Ives 8400?
Material and duty. The DD09-30 is anodized aluminum in a residential classification, offered in four decorative finishes (matte black, oil rubbed bronze, satin nickel, satin brass) so it can match residential trim. The Hager 190S comes in satin stainless with four beveled edges, and the Ives 8400 Series is a stainless steel protection plate with beveled edges. Stainless resists dents and cart strikes better; the aluminum plate is the one to pick when you want a black or bronze look on an apartment or house door.
6) Can I standardize a whole building on the Pamex DD09-30?
Across residential leaves of the same width, yes. One finish across four choices covers the building, and all three heights share the 34 inch length so every plate lands the same way on a 36 inch door. Where a door is narrower than 36 inches or is a labeled fire door, the DD09-30 is not the plate for that opening and you will need a different size or a listed plate for those few doors.
7) Does the Pamex kick plate mount with screws or adhesive, and does it come with fasteners?
The DD09-30 is a screw-applied plate at 0.05 inches thick, so it is drilled and fastened through the face of the door rather than taped on. Order matching finish screws with it if you want the heads to disappear into the plate, and plan to pre-drill on a metal door.

    Front Door Kick Plate

Posted by Mark Locascio on Oct 7th 2024

Came as advertised, I bought the 6"x 34" oil rubbed bronze kick plate. The holes were lined up exactly as the old one. Had a nice plastic cover I took off after I put the screws in. Beautiful finish.
