Yes. The FTF Baron knobset drops into the standard residential prep: 2-1/8 inch cross bore, 1 inch edge bore, with a 2-3/8 inch backset latch as standard. If your door was previously fitted with any common bored knob or lever, the holes are already there and no new boring is needed.
2) What door thickness does the Pamex FTF knob lockset work on, and what if my door is thicker?
Standard fit is 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch, which covers ordinary interior doors and standard commercial-thickness doors. For doors from 1-3/4 up to 2-1/4 inches, an extension kit is available and must be ordered along with the lockset.
3) What does the passage function on the Pamex FTF Baron knob actually do - is there a lock in it?
There is no lock. Passage means both knobs are always free, turning from either side at all times, with no key and no turn-piece. It's a latch that keeps the door closed, for halls, closets and pantries. If you need the door to lock for a bedroom or bath, the Baron also comes in a privacy function with an inside turn-piece; for a keyed opening, the entry function keys outside with a turn-piece inside.
4) Will the Pamex FTF Baron latch strike into the strike plate already in my frame?
Most likely. The FTF ships with a 2-1/4 x 1-3/4 inch round corner full lip strike and the bolt has a 1/2 inch throw, which is the standard residential bored-lock strike footprint. If your frame carries a square corner strike or an ASA lip cutout instead, keep the existing strike prep in mind, other strike options are offered on the Pamex line.
5) Is a Grade 3 knob lockset like the Pamex FTF Baron good enough for an apartment building or an office corridor?
Grade 3 under ANSI/BHMA A156.2 is the residential duty level, and Pamex classifies the FTF as a residential lockset. It suits apartment interiors, closets, and hall doors in multi-family. Not with the standard latch. The FTF Baron ships with a 2-3/8 inch backset latch, and 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 are the two backsets used on bored doors, so a 2-3/4 inch prep needs the alternate latch Pamex offers.
