Panduit StrongHold™ ST43 Professional Grade PVC Electrical Tape

The Panduit StrongHold™ ST43 Series is a pressure-sensitive vinyl electrical tape engineered for professional-grade performance across a wide range of temperatures. Constructed from PVC with excellent elasticity and insulating properties, this tape is suitable as primary insulation for splicing up to 600 Volts or 80°C (176°F), and also functions as protective jacketing. Each roll ships in an individual plastic puck for convenient jobsite use and is rated for both indoor and outdoor environments. The ST43 Series is available in a full color range — Black, Blue, Brown, Gray, Green, Orange, Red, Violet, White, and Yellow — making it easy to color-code circuits, phases, and cable identification across any job.

Panduit ST35-075-66BR – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can Panduit StrongHold ST43 electrical tape be used as primary insulation on a 600V splice?
Yes. The StrongHold ST43 PVC tape is rated as primary insulation for splices up to 600 volts or 80C (176F), with 8 kV dielectric strength dry and 7.2 kV after wet conditioning at 90 percent humidity. It also works as protective jacketing over cable and harness runs. At 0.007 inch (0.2 mm) thick, standard half-lap practice builds the layers you need over the conductor.
2) Will this Panduit vinyl tape hold up outdoors and in an unheated building over winter?
The StrongHold ST43 tape is rated Indoor/Outdoor and operates from -18C (0F) up to 105C (221F), so an unheated mechanical room or an exterior junction in a cold climate is inside its range. Durability is rated at 5 years. Below 0F the vinyl gets stiff, so warm the roll before applying in deep cold.
3) Does Panduit StrongHold tape come in colors for phase marking, not just black?
Ten colors are offered. Black is the ST43 professional grade insulating roll, model ST43-075-66BK. Phase and identification colors come in the ST35 line at the same 3/4 by 66 foot size: brown ST35-075-66BR, blue ST35-075-66BU, green ST35-075-66GR, gray ST35-075-66GY, orange ST35-075-66OR, red ST35-075-66RD, violet ST35-075-66VI, white ST35-075-66WH and yellow ST35-075-66YL. Electricians typically insulate the splice in black and band the colored tape over it for phase ID.
4) Is Panduit ST43 electrical tape UL listed and flame retardant for inspected commercial work?
UL Listed and CSA Certified. The specific listings are UL 510 and CSA C22.2 No. 197, and the flammability rating is UL 510 Flame Retardant. The tape also meets ASTM D-3005 Type 1 and EN 60454-3-1 Type 11, and it is RoHS compliant. That is the paperwork an inspector or a spec-driven institutional job asks for on splicing tape.
5) Should I use vinyl electrical tape or rubber splicing tape on a medium voltage or high heat splice?
Vinyl tape like the StrongHold ST43 is the right call for 600 volt and below splicing, jacketing and phase marking, up to 105C (221F). Above 600 volts you want a self-amalgamating rubber splicing tape built up to the conductor insulation thickness, then overwrapped with a vinyl like this one for mechanical and moisture protection. For long term exposure to hot equipment past 221F, vinyl is not the material for the job.
6) Will the ends of the tape flag or lift back off after wrapping?
Flagging is rated at 0 mm on the StrongHold PVC tape, meaning the end does not pull back off the wrap under test. That matters on overhead and vertical runs where a lifted tail invites moisture into the splice. The rubber adhesive bonds to its own backing at the same 2.2 N/cm it holds to steel, so the final lap grips the layer under it.
7) Does Panduit StrongHold electrical tape carry a California Prop 65 warning?
Yes, the StrongHold PVC tape carries a Proposition 65 warning, cancer endpoint. It is not classed as a hazardous material for shipping and contains no mercury. Facilities buyers in California should route it through their normal Prop 65 labeling process for stocked consumables.
