2) Should I use a straight blade 10-50R or a locking receptacle for 50A equipment?
Depends on whether the cord can be pulled out. The 385's straight blade 10-50R plugs and unplugs by hand, which is what you want for a range, a piece of kitchen equipment, or anything rolled out for cleaning and service.
