PDQ 4K14 Sectional Knob Passage Trim

PDQ 4200 Series Wide Stile Exit Device Trim

PDQ 4-prefix exit device trim is the outside trim for PDQ 4200 Series exit devices, used with the 4200R rim and 4200V surface vertical rod devices. It controls entry from the pull side of the door while the exit device handles egress from the inside.

The family covers wide escutcheon (4EW) and narrow escutcheon (4EN) lever trim, 4S rose lever trim, 4K sectional knob trim, 4P plate and pull trim, and 4GW grip pull trim. Functions range from exit only and dummy trim to night latch, classroom, storeroom and passage, so each 4200 opening can be matched to how it needs to work.

Key Features

  • Built for PDQ 4200 Series rim and surface vertical rod exit devices

Frequently Asked Questions

Which exit devices does 4200 Series trim fit?
Every 4-prefix PDQ trim fits the 4200R rim and 4200V surface vertical rod exit devices. It is not designed for the 6300 or 6400 Series, which use 6-prefix trim.

Is 4K knob trim ADA compliant?
No. Knob trim requires grasping and turning, which ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 do not allow on an accessible route. PDQ recommends lever trim such as the 4EW or 4EN where accessibility compliance is required.

What is the difference between the 4EN and 4EW?
The 4EN narrow escutcheon gives a slimmer profile for narrow stile doors, while the 4EW is built for wide stile 4200 doors. Both are lever operated and pair with the same 4200 Series exit devices.

PDQ 4K14630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which PDQ exit devices does the 4K14 knob trim fit?
The PDQ 4K14 sectional knob trim is outside trim for the 4200 Series wide stile devices: 4200R and 4200RF rim devices, and 4200V and 4200VF surface vertical rod devices. It will not work on PDQ 6300 or 6400 Series devices, which take 6-prefix trim instead.
2) Will the PDQ 4K14 trim work on a 2 inch thick door?
Yes. The 4-prefix 4200 Series trim, including the 4K14 knob, is listed for doors 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch thick, so a 2 inch door is at the top of the range and a standard 1-3/4 inch commercial door sits at the bottom.
3) Does the 4K14 passage trim need a cylinder or key?
No cylinder is involved. Function 14 is passage: the knob always retracts the latch from the outside and there is no locking. Keyed 4200 trims are the ones that take a conventional cylinder or an SFIC or Schlage LFIC prep less core, so if you need the opening to lock you want a night latch, classroom or storeroom function instead of the 4K14.
4) Is knob trim allowed on an accessible route, or do I need lever trim?
Knob trim is not acceptable on an accessible route. The 4K sectional knob requires grasping and turning, which ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 do not permit. For accessible openings on a 4200 device, use PDQ lever trim: 4EW wide escutcheon, 4EN narrow escutcheon, or 4S rose trim, all of which PDQ lists as ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 compliant.
5) Do I have to specify handing when ordering PDQ 4K14 trim?
No handing is required. The 4K14 is non-handed, so one part covers left and right hand reverse openings. Among the 4200 trims only the 4GW grip pull has to be ordered LHR or RHR.
6) I am replacing old knob trim on a 4200 exit device and the door has extra holes. Will the 4K14 cover them?
A sectional knob trim mounts on a small rose and will not hide holes outside its footprint. For retrofits where existing prep and holes need covering, the 4EW wide escutcheon trim is the one PDQ builds for that, and it is lever operated so it also satisfies accessibility requirements.
7) What is the difference between 4K knob trim and 4S rose lever trim on a PDQ 4200 device?
Both are compact rose-style trims rather than full escutcheons. The 4K is a sectional knob; the 4S is a lever, fits standard 161 prepped doors with through bolts, and can be ordered with Philadelphia, Boston or Miami lever designs. All 4200 lever trims offer the Philadelphia lever, but Boston and Miami are available only on the 4S.
8) Does the 4K14 trim control egress from inside the door?
No. The 4K14 is outside trim only, controlling entry from the pull side. Egress is handled by the 4200R rim or 4200V surface vertical rod device mounted on the inside face, which is ordered separately.
9) What finish does the PDQ 4K14 knob trim come in?
One finish: 630 satin stainless steel, ordered as 4K14630. If the other openings in your building are standardized on satin chrome or bronze trim, this knob will not match them.
