Outside Trim for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series Exit Devices

Exit device trim is the lever, pull, thumb latch or cylinder on the outside of a door with an exit device. It sets what someone outside can do, such as open the door freely, unlock it with a key, or open it only when the bar is locked down. People inside always leave by pushing the bar.

PDQ's 6-prefix trim is built for the 6300 Series (wide stile) and 6400 Series (narrow stile) exit devices. The line covers narrow escutcheon (6N), wide escutcheon (6W), rose lever (6S), thumb latch (6T), grip pull (6G, 6GW), pull plate (6P) and cylinder only (6C) trim, M-suffix versions for the 6300M mortise device, and the electrified 6W99 for access control.

Do I need outside trim on a panic bar?
Outside trim is only needed when people must open the door from outside. An exit-only door can go without trim or use a blank or exit only function such as the 6N or 6P in function 01. If staff need key entry with no handle, the 6C cylinder only trim adds a key on the night latch function.

Which 6-prefix trim fits the 6300 and 6400 Series?
The 6300 Series takes the 6N, 6W, 6S, 6T, 6G, 6P and 6C, plus the electrified 6W99. The narrow stile 6400 Series takes the 6N, 6T, 6G and 6C, but the 6T does not fit the 6400C. M-suffix trims (6NM, 6WM, 6GM, 6GWM, 6CM) are for the 6300M mortise device.

What is the difference between the 6N and 6W trim?

1) Which PDQ exit devices does the 6T15 thumb latch trim fit?
The 6T thumb latch trim is built for the PDQ 6300 Series (wide stile) and the narrow stile 6400 Series, specifically the 6400R and 6400V. It does not fit the 6400C. If you have a 6300M mortise device, you need an M-suffix trim instead (6NM, 6WM, 6GM, 6GWM or 6CM) - there is no M version of the thumb latch.
2) What does passage function trim actually do on an exit device?
Passage means the thumb latch always retracts the latch, so anyone outside can open the door at any time with no key. There is no locking from the outside. If you need the outside to stay locked and open only with a key, order a storeroom or night latch function instead; classroom function lets staff lock and unlock it with a key. Inside, people still just push the bar.
3) What door prep does the PDQ 6T15 trim need?
The 6-prefix trim mounts with either a 2-hole bolt pattern on 7 inch centers or a 4-hole pattern on 7 inch by 1-3/8 inch centers. That is the whole prep, which makes it straightforward on a new door or a re-prep.
4) Do I need to order the 6T15 trim left hand or right hand?
No handing to specify. The 6T15 thumb latch trim is non-handed, so one part covers both left and right hand doors.
5) Can I get the 6T15 with an antimicrobial or weatherized finish?
Both are available, but only on 626 and 630. Of the finishes offered on the 6T15, that means satin stainless steel 630. The AM antimicrobial coating goes on tactile surfaces, which is the thumb latch itself - useful on healthcare and school corridors. Weatherized finish is the option to add for exterior exposure.
6) Thumb latch or lever trim for a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
Both the 6T thumb latch and the 6N narrow escutcheon lever fit the narrow stile 6400 Series, so either works on an aluminum storefront. The thumb latch gives a flush, low-profile outside pull with nothing to catch, which suits high-traffic storefront entries. Go to the 6N or 6G if the spec calls for a lever or a grip pull. The 6S rose lever and 6W wide escutcheon are 6300 Series only.
7) I am retrofitting a door with existing trim holes - will the 6T15 cover them?
The thumb latch is a compact trim and is not the one to pick for hole coverage. PDQ's 6W wide escutcheon trim is the version built to cover existing holes on a retrofit, and it mounts to 6300 Series wide stile devices.
8) Does passage trim need a cylinder?
