PDQ 6T06 Thumb Latch Trim, Storeroom

Outside Trim for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series Exit Devices

Exit device trim is the lever, pull, thumb latch or cylinder on the outside of a door with an exit device. It sets what someone outside can do, such as open the door freely, unlock it with a key, or open it only when the bar is locked down. People inside always leave by pushing the bar.

PDQ's 6-prefix trim is built for the 6300 Series (wide stile) and 6400 Series (narrow stile) exit devices. The line covers narrow escutcheon (6N), wide escutcheon (6W), rose lever (6S), thumb latch (6T), grip pull (6G, 6GW), pull plate (6P) and cylinder only (6C) trim, M-suffix versions for the 6300M mortise device, and the electrified 6W99 for access control.

Key Features

  • Built for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series exit devices; the 6N, 6G and 6C also fit the narrow stile 6400 Series, and the 6T fits the 6400R and 6400V
  • Non-handed, with a simple door prep: 2-hole bolt pattern on 7" centers or 4-hole pattern on 7" x 1-3/8" centers
  • Functions include exit only, dummy, night latch, classroom, storeroom and passage, plus electrified storeroom on the 6W99 and 6WM99
  • Lever trims come in Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Orlando, Chicago and Los Angeles styles (6S rose trim: Philadelphia, Boston and Miami)
  • The 6W wide escutcheon covers existing holes when retrofitting a door
  • 6W99 electrified trim locks and unlocks from an access control system on 12 to 24 VDC or VAC, ships fail secure and changes to fail safe in the field
  • Thick door options for 2-1/2" to 2-3/4" doors or doors up to 3" (not on 6300M trim), and antimicrobial coating on the 6N, 6W, 6T, 6G and 6P

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need outside trim on a panic bar?
Outside trim is only needed when people must open the door from outside. An exit-only door can go without trim or use a blank or exit only function such as the 6N or 6P in function 01. If staff need key entry with no handle, the 6C cylinder only trim adds a key on the night latch function.

Which 6-prefix trim fits the 6300 and 6400 Series?
The 6300 Series takes the 6N, 6W, 6S, 6T, 6G, 6P and 6C, plus the electrified 6W99. The narrow stile 6400 Series takes the 6N, 6T, 6G and 6C, but the 6T does not fit the 6400C. M-suffix trims (6NM, 6WM, 6GM, 6GWM, 6CM) are for the 6300M mortise device.

What is the difference between the 6N and 6W trim?
The 6N is a narrow escutcheon sized for slim door stiles and fits both 6300 and 6400 devices. The 6W uses a wider escutcheon plate for wide stile 6300 devices and can cover existing holes on a retrofit.

PDQ 6T06630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the storeroom function on the PDQ 6T06 actually do at the door?
Storeroom function means the outside stays locked at all times. The thumb latch will not retract the latch on its own; entry from the corridor is by key only, and the door relocks behind you. People inside always get out by pushing the exit device bar. That is the function you want for staff-only rooms, supply closets and healthcare rooms that must never be left unlocked. If you want the outside to be lockable and unlockable from outside with a key instead, order the classroom function version of the trim.
2) What door prep does the PDQ 6T trim need, and can I use existing holes?
Prep is a 2-hole bolt pattern on 7 inch centers, or a 4-hole pattern on 7 inch by 1-3/8 inch centers. The thumb latch escutcheon is slim, so it will not hide oversized or stray holes from older hardware. For a retrofit where the door face already has holes to cover, the 6W wide escutcheon trim is the one made to conceal them.
3) What do I need to specify besides finish when ordering PDQ 6T06 trim?
Four things beyond finish: cylinder, keyway, keying, and any trim options. Cylinder choices run from a conventional cylinder or less cylinder through SFIC preps (SF6 six-pin core, SF7 seven-pin core, SFL less core, SFC construction core, SFP plastic construction core) and Schlage LFIC preps (LF6 with core, LFL less core, LFC construction core). Keying is KD keyed different, KA keyed alike, or KO zero bitted. Optional add-ons are AM antimicrobial coating, weatherized finish, and the TD4/TD5 thick door kits.
4) Can I key the PDQ 6T06 into my existing master key system?
In most cases yes. The keyway list covers Schlage C, C-K and E, Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1, 60 and L4, Russwin D1 and 981, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset, PDQ Restricted TA, plus SFIC in BEST A through TE sections and three PDQ exclusive SFIC keyways. Pick the keyway that matches the system already in the building and order KA keyed alike if the trim has to run on the same key as other doors.
5) Which finishes does the PDQ 6T06 thumb latch trim come in?
Three: 613E dark oxidized satin bronze (part 6T06613E), 622 flat black (6T06622), and 630 satin stainless steel (6T06630). If you need the antimicrobial coating or the weatherized finish option, those are restricted to 626 and 630, so 630 satin stainless is the finish to pick for an exterior or healthcare door.
6) Do I have to order the 6T06 trim handed for a left or right hand door?
No handing to specify. The 6T06 thumb latch trim is non-handed, so the same part works on a left or right hand door swing.
7) Should I use thumb latch trim or lever trim on an exit device?
A thumb latch gives a pull with a small thumb piece and no lever handle, which suits aluminum storefront and narrow stile openings where there is little room on the face of the door. Lever trim is what you want where a graspable handle is expected or required. PDQ's 6-prefix line offers the 6S rose lever and the 6N narrow and 6W wide escutcheon lever trims for that, with levers in Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Orlando, Chicago and Los Angeles styles (the 6S is limited to Philadelphia, Boston and Miami). For key entry with no handle at all, the 6C cylinder only trim is the simpler answer.
8) Is there a PDQ exit device trim that unlocks from an access control system instead of a key?
Yes, but not the 6T. For access control you want the 6W99 electrified wide escutcheon trim, which locks and unlocks from the access control system on 12 to 24 VDC or VAC. It ships fail secure and can be field-changed to fail safe. Key entry is still available on it, and using the key does not change the electronic lock state. There is also a 6WM99 for the 6300M mortise device.
9) Can a storeroom trim be changed to classroom function later?
Not on the 6T06. The factory conversion kit between classroom and storeroom comes with the wide escutcheon 6W08/6W09 and the mortise 6WM08/6WM09 trims. If you expect the function to change on that opening, order one of those instead of the thumb latch.
