PDQ 6T05 Thumb Latch Trim, Classroom

Outside Trim for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series Exit Devices

Exit device trim is the lever, pull, thumb latch or cylinder on the outside of a door with an exit device. It sets what someone outside can do, such as open the door freely, unlock it with a key, or open it only when the bar is locked down. People inside always leave by pushing the bar.

PDQ's 6-prefix trim is built for the 6300 Series (wide stile) and 6400 Series (narrow stile) exit devices. The line covers narrow escutcheon (6N), wide escutcheon (6W), rose lever (6S), thumb latch (6T), grip pull (6G, 6GW), pull plate (6P) and cylinder only (6C) trim, M-suffix versions for the 6300M mortise device, and the electrified 6W99 for access control.

Key Features

  • Built for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series exit devices; the 6N, 6G and 6C also fit the narrow stile 6400 Series, and the 6T fits the 6400R and 6400V
  • Non-handed, with a simple door prep: 2-hole bolt pattern on 7" centers or 4-hole pattern on 7" x 1-3/8" centers
  • Functions include exit only, dummy, night latch, classroom, storeroom and passage, plus electrified storeroom on the 6W99 and 6WM99
  • Lever trims come in Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Orlando, Chicago and Los Angeles styles (6S rose trim: Philadelphia, Boston and Miami)
  • The 6W wide escutcheon covers existing holes when retrofitting a door
  • 6W99 electrified trim locks and unlocks from an access control system on 12 to 24 VDC or VAC, ships fail secure and changes to fail safe in the field
  • Thick door options for 2-1/2" to 2-3/4" doors or doors up to 3" (not on 6300M trim), and antimicrobial coating on the 6N, 6W, 6T, 6G and 6P

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need outside trim on a panic bar?
Outside trim is only needed when people must open the door from outside. An exit-only door can go without trim or use a blank or exit only function such as the 6N or 6P in function 01. If staff need key entry with no handle, the 6C cylinder only trim adds a key on the night latch function.

Which 6-prefix trim fits the 6300 and 6400 Series?
The 6300 Series takes the 6N, 6W, 6S, 6T, 6G, 6P and 6C, plus the electrified 6W99. The narrow stile 6400 Series takes the 6N, 6T, 6G and 6C, but the 6T does not fit the 6400C. M-suffix trims (6NM, 6WM, 6GM, 6GWM, 6CM) are for the 6300M mortise device.

What is the difference between the 6N and 6W trim?
The 6N is a narrow escutcheon sized for slim door stiles and fits both 6300 and 6400 devices. The 6W uses a wider escutcheon plate for wide stile 6300 devices and can cover existing holes on a retrofit.

PDQ 6T05630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which PDQ exit devices does the 6T05 thumb latch trim fit?
The 6T thumb latch trim mounts to PDQ 6300 Series (wide stile) and 6400 Series (narrow stile) exit devices, and on the narrow stile line it specifically fits the 6400R and 6400V. It does not fit the 6400C. If you have a 6300M mortise device, you need an M-suffix trim (6NM, 6WM, 6GM, 6GWM, 6CM) instead.
2) What does the 05 classroom function do on PDQ 6T trim?
Classroom function means the outside thumb latch retracts the device latch so people can enter, and a key locks or unlocks that outside thumb latch. People inside always get out by pushing the bar, regardless of how the outside is set. If you want the outside to stay permanently locked with key-only entry, that is storeroom function rather than the 05 classroom.
3) Is the PDQ 6T05 trim handed, and what door prep does it need?
Non-handed, so one part covers left and right hand openings with no field conversion. Prep is either a 2-hole bolt pattern on 7 inch centers or a 4-hole pattern on 7 by 1-3/8 inch centers.
4) Will the 6T05 work on a thick door over 2 inches?
Standard 6T05 covers normal commercial door thickness. For thicker openings, add TD4 for doors 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 inches, or TD5 for doors up to 3 inches. Both options apply to the 6T (and the 6W, 6G, 6P and 6N), but neither is available on 6300M mortise trim.
5) What cylinder and keyway do I have to specify when ordering PDQ 6T05 classroom trim?
Cylinder, keyway and keying are all required choices. Cylinder options run from a conventional cylinder (default) or less cylinder, through SFIC preps (SF6 6-pin, SF7 7-pin, SFL less core, SFC construction core, SFP plastic construction core), to Schlage LFIC preps (LF6 with core, LFL less core, LFC construction core). Keying is KD keyed different, KA keyed alike, or KO zero bitted. Keyway choices include Schlage C (the conventional default), Schlage E and C-K, Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1/60/L4, Russwin D1 and 981, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset, PDQ Restricted TA, the BEST SFIC family, and PDQ exclusive SFIC keyways. If you are keying into an existing building master, pick the keyway that matches your system and KA.
6) Should I use thumb latch trim or lever trim on a classroom exit device?
A thumb latch (6T) gives a compact paddle-style outside release and fits both wide stile 6300 and narrow stile 6400R/6400V devices, which makes it the common pick on aluminum storefront where there is little stile to work with. Lever trim gives a full handle: 6S rose lever or the 6N narrow and 6W wide escutcheon versions, with lever styles Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Orlando, Chicago and Los Angeles. Choose the 6W if you are retrofitting and need to cover existing holes in the door.
7) Can I get the PDQ 6T trim with an antimicrobial coating for a healthcare corridor?
Yes. The AM option adds antimicrobial coating to tactile surfaces and is offered on the 6N, 6W, 6T, 6G and 6P trims, but only in 626 and 630 finishes. On the 6T05 that means pairing it with the 630 satin stainless version.
8) If I need the outside to stay locked with key-only entry instead of classroom, what do I order?
Pick a storeroom function trim rather than the 05 classroom. PDQ's 6-prefix line covers exit only, dummy, night latch, classroom, storeroom and passage functions. If you want the ability to change your mind later, the 6W08/6W09 and 6WM08/6WM09 ship with a factory conversion kit that converts classroom to storeroom or storeroom to classroom.
9) Is there a weatherized version of the PDQ 6T05 for an exterior door?
A weatherized finish option is available on 6T trim in 626 and 630 only (it is not offered on the 6C cylinder-only trim). For the 6T05 that pairs with the 630 satin stainless steel version.
