PDQ 4P02 Pull Trim, Dummy

PDQ 4200 Series Wide Stile Exit Device Trim

PDQ 4-prefix exit device trim is the outside trim for PDQ 4200 Series exit devices, used with the 4200R rim and 4200V surface vertical rod devices. It controls entry from the pull side of the door while the exit device handles egress from the inside.

The family covers wide escutcheon (4EW) and narrow escutcheon (4EN) lever trim, 4S rose lever trim, 4K sectional knob trim, 4P plate and pull trim, and 4GW grip pull trim. Functions range from exit only and dummy trim to night latch, classroom, storeroom and passage, so each 4200 opening can be matched to how it needs to work.

Key Features

  • Built for PDQ 4200 Series rim and surface vertical rod exit devices
  • Lever, knob, plate pull and grip pull trim styles

Frequently Asked Questions

Which exit devices does 4200 Series trim fit?
Every 4-prefix PDQ trim fits the 4200R rim and 4200V surface vertical rod exit devices. It is not designed for the 6300 or 6400 Series, which use 6-prefix trim.

Is 4K knob trim ADA compliant?
No. Knob trim requires grasping and turning, which ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 do not allow on an accessible route. PDQ recommends lever trim such as the 4EW or 4EN where accessibility compliance is required.

What is the difference between the 4EN and 4EW?
The 4EN narrow escutcheon gives a slimmer profile for narrow stile doors, while the 4EW is built for wide stile 4200 doors. Both are lever operated and pair with the same 4200 Series exit devices.

PDQ 4P02689 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which PDQ exit devices does the 4P02 pull trim fit?
The PDQ 4P02 dummy pull trim is outside trim for the 4200 Series wide stile devices: 4200R and 4200RF rim devices, and 4200V and 4200VF surface vertical rod devices. It is not made for the PDQ 6300 or 6400 Series, which take 6-prefix trim instead.
2) Does the 4P02 dummy trim unlock the door from the outside?
No. The 4P02 is a dummy pull, ANSI/BHMA function 02, so it is a fixed pull with no cylinder and no latch retraction. Pull it and nothing happens to the exit device. Egress still works from the inside push bar, but outside entry is not possible unless the device is dogged. If you need keyed entry from the pull side, specify a keyed function in the 4200 trim family such as a night latch, classroom or storeroom trim.
3) Will PDQ 4P02 trim work on a 2 inch thick door?
Yes. The 4P02 plate pull trim is listed for doors 1-3/4 to 2 inches thick, which covers standard commercial 1-3/4 inch doors as well as heavier 2 inch leaves.
4) I am replacing old trim on a 4200 device and the door has existing holes. Is the 4P02 the right pick?
Depends what you need the outside to do. A plate and pull like the 4P02 gives you a fixed grab with no outside operation. If the concern is covering old prep and holes left by previous hardware, PDQ calls out the 4EW wide escutcheon lever trim for exactly that on retrofits. For a 161 prepped door, the 4S rose lever trim mounts with through bolts.
5) Do I have to specify handing when ordering PDQ 4P02 trim?
No handing is needed. The 4P02 is non-handed, so one part number works on either a left or right hand door. Within the 4200 trim family only the 4GW grip pull requires an LHR or RHR call-out.
6) Is a dummy pull trim ADA compliant for an accessible opening?
PDQ states ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 compliance for its lever trims (4EW, 4EN and 4S). The 4P02 is a plate and pull, not a lever, so if the opening has to meet accessibility requirements for operable hardware, order one of the lever trims instead. A fixed pull has no operating mechanism to actuate, which is why it is commonly used on exit-only or egress-only leaves where no outside operation is wanted.
7) Do I need to order a cylinder or core with the 4P02?
No cylinder is required. Being a dummy pull, the 4P02 has no keyed function. Cylinders only come into play on PDQ's keyed 4200 trims, where you choose a conventional cylinder or an SFIC or Schlage LFIC prep less core, and the core is bought separately.
8) What finishes does the PDQ 4P02 pull trim come in?
Three: 689 aluminum, 693 black, and 695 duro bronze. The finish is part of the order number, so a black dummy pull is 4P02693 and the aluminum is 4P02689. If you are standardizing a building, pick the finish that matches the lever or escutcheon trim on your other 4200 openings.
