What does the Blade Stop Spacer do?
The Blade Stop Spacer shims PDQ parallel arm brackets to clear a 1/2" blade stop. When a Blade Stop Spacer is used in a narrow frame application, the NFB Narrow Frame Bracket must also be used.
Which arms are for parallel arm mounting only?
PDQ lists the Extra Duty Arm, Door Saver Arm, Door Saver Hold Open Arm and Extra Duty Arm Hold Open as parallel arm (PA) applications only. The Regular Arm and Hold Open Arm can be mounted regular, top jamb or parallel arm, with a parallel arm bracket required for PA mounting.

1) Do screws come with the PDQ 519008 back plate?
PDQ sells matching screw packs for its mounting plates as separate items, so plan on ordering the screw pack for the plate along with it. PDQ's fastener offering for these closers also includes self drilling self tapping screws, tamper resistant screws, and sex nuts and bolts for through bolting 1-3/4 inch doors.
2) I have a 1/2 inch blade stop on the frame. Do I need the back plate or something else?
A blade stop is a different problem from what a back plate solves. PDQ's Blade Stop Spacer shims the parallel arm bracket to clear a 1/2 inch blade stop, and if you are doing that in a narrow frame application the NFB Narrow Frame Bracket has to be used with it. Order the spacer (plus NFB where the frame is narrow) for that condition, and use the back plate where you need a mounting surface for the closer body.
3) What is a back plate used for on a door closer install?
A back plate is a mounting plate that gives the closer body a solid, flat mounting surface where the door or frame face cannot take the fasteners directly. PDQ groups it with its other special-mounting hardware, including top jamb and parallel arm drop plates, parallel arm brackets, the blade stop spacer and the narrow frame bracket. It is a mounting component only, not an arm or a cover.
4) What finishes does the PDQ 519008 back plate come in, and how do I order the right one?
Four finishes: 689 Aluminum, 693 Black, 695 Duro Bronze and 696 Gold. The finish code is appended to the base part number, so the aluminum plate orders as 519008689 and the black as 519008693. Pick the code that matches the closer and cover already on the opening so the plate does not read as a mismatched patch.
5) Can I mount a PDQ closer parallel arm with just the regular arm, or is a bracket needed?
The Regular Arm and Hold Open Arm can both be mounted regular, top jamb or parallel arm, but parallel arm mounting requires a parallel arm bracket. The Extra Duty Arm, Extra Duty Hold Open Arm, Door Saver Arm and Door Saver Hold Open Arm are parallel arm applications only.
