PDQ 6NM08 Narrow Escutcheon Mortise Trim, Classroom (Lever)

Outside Trim for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series Exit Devices

Exit device trim is the lever, pull, thumb latch or cylinder on the outside of a door with an exit device. It sets what someone outside can do, such as open the door freely, unlock it with a key, or open it only when the bar is locked down. People inside always leave by pushing the bar.

PDQ's 6-prefix trim is built for the 6300 Series (wide stile) and 6400 Series (narrow stile) exit devices. The line covers narrow escutcheon (6N), wide escutcheon (6W), rose lever (6S), thumb latch (6T), grip pull (6G, 6GW), pull plate (6P) and cylinder only (6C) trim, M-suffix versions for the 6300M mortise device, and the electrified 6W99 for access control.

Key Features

  • Built for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series exit devices; the 6N, 6G and 6C also fit the narrow stile 6400 Series, and the 6T fits the 6400R and 6400V
  • Non-handed, with a simple door prep: 2-hole bolt pattern on 7" centers or 4-hole pattern on 7" x 1-3/8" centers
  • Functions include exit only, dummy, night latch, classroom, storeroom and passage, plus electrified storeroom on the 6W99 and 6WM99
  • Lever trims come in Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Orlando, Chicago and Los Angeles styles (6S rose trim: Philadelphia, Boston and Miami)
  • The 6W wide escutcheon covers existing holes when retrofitting a door
  • 6W99 electrified trim locks and unlocks from an access control system on 12 to 24 VDC or VAC, ships fail secure and changes to fail safe in the field
  • Thick door options for 2-1/2" to 2-3/4" doors or doors up to 3" (not on 6300M trim), and antimicrobial coating on the 6N, 6W, 6T, 6G and 6P

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need outside trim on a panic bar?
Outside trim is only needed when people must open the door from outside. An exit-only door can go without trim or use a blank or exit only function such as the 6N or 6P in function 01. If staff need key entry with no handle, the 6C cylinder only trim adds a key on the night latch function.

Which 6-prefix trim fits the 6300 and 6400 Series?
The 6300 Series takes the 6N, 6W, 6S, 6T, 6G, 6P and 6C, plus the electrified 6W99. The narrow stile 6400 Series takes the 6N, 6T, 6G and 6C, but the 6T does not fit the 6400C. M-suffix trims (6NM, 6WM, 6GM, 6GWM, 6CM) are for the 6300M mortise device.

What is the difference between the 6N and 6W trim?
The 6N is a narrow escutcheon sized for slim door stiles and fits both 6300 and 6400 devices. The 6W uses a wider escutcheon plate for wide stile 6300 devices and can cover existing holes on a retrofit.

PDQ 6NM08BSN630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does classroom function mean on PDQ 6NM08 trim?
Classroom function on the 6NM08 lever trim means a key in the outside cylinder locks or unlocks the outside lever. Left unlocked, anyone can pull the door open by the lever; locked, the lever is dead and only a key gets you in. People inside always get out by pushing the exit bar. It is the function used where a teacher needs to secure a classroom door from the corridor quickly.
2) Is the 6NM08 narrow escutcheon trim handed, and what door prep does it need?
Non-handed, so one part covers left and right hand doors with no field conversion. The prep is a 2-hole bolt pattern on 7 inch centers, or a 4-hole pattern on 7 inch by 1-3/8 inch centers.
3) Should I order the 6N narrow escutcheon or the 6W wide escutcheon trim?
Pick by stile width and by what is already drilled in the door. The 6N narrow escutcheon is sized for slim stiles, and the non-mortise 6N also fits the narrow stile 6400 Series. The 6W uses a wider plate for wide stile 6300 devices and will cover existing holes on a retrofit, so if you are replacing older trim and there are extra holes in the door face, the wide plate is the one that hides them. For a 6300M mortise device the equivalents are the 6NM and 6WM.
4) Can the PDQ 6NM08 trim be keyed into my existing Schlage or BEST master system?
Yes, keyway is an order choice. Conventional cylinders default to Schlage C, and Schlage E, C-K, Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1 / 60 / L4, Russwin D1 and 981, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset and PDQ Restricted TA are all available. For small format interchangeable core, the prep options are SF6 (6-pin core), SF7 (7-pin core), SFL less core, SFC construction core and SFP plastic construction core, with BEST A through TE keyways plus PDQ1, PDQ2 and PDQ3 exclusives; BEST A is the SFIC default. Schlage large format is covered by LF6, LFL and LFC. Keying is specified as keyed different, keyed alike, or zero bitted.
5) My door is thicker than standard. Is there a thick door option for PDQ 6 Series trim?
Thick door options exist for the 6 Series trim line for 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 inch doors and for doors up to 3 inches, but they are not offered on 6300M mortise trim. Since the 6NM08 is the mortise version, a standard thickness opening is what it is built for.
6) Will the 6NM08 work on an aluminum storefront door?
Not as it ships. The 6NM08 is the mortise-device trim for the 6300M, and aluminum storefront openings normally run the narrow stile 6400 Series. For those doors the trim choices are the 6N, 6T or 6G, with the caveat that the 6T does not fit the 6400C. The narrow escutcheon shape is right for a slim stile, but the M-suffix tie to the mortise device is what rules the 6NM08 out there.
7) What lever styles and finishes can I get on PDQ 6NM08 trim?
Six lever styles: Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Orlando, Chicago and Los Angeles. Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 630 satin stainless steel. Each combination has its own PDQ number, built as model plus lever plus finish, for example 6NM08PHL605, which is what you quote to match other openings in the building.
8) Do I have to buy a cylinder with the 6NM08 classroom trim?
No. Less Cylinder is an order option if your locksmith is supplying the cylinder or you are pulling one from stock, and the interchangeable core preps can be ordered less core as well (SFL for SFIC, LFL for Schlage LFIC). Just remember classroom function depends on the key cylinder to lock and unlock the outside lever, so the opening is not finished until a cylinder or core goes in.
9) Can I get antimicrobial or weatherized 6NM08 trim for a healthcare or exterior door?
Both are available, and both are restricted to two finishes. Antimicrobial coating on the tactile surfaces can be ordered on the 6N family in 626 satin chrome or 630 satin stainless steel only, which is what gets specified for patient and corridor doors. The weatherized finish option is likewise 626 and 630 only for exterior exposure. If the spec calls for brass or flat black, neither option applies.
10) What is the difference between classroom and storeroom function trim on a PDQ exit device?
Classroom trim, like the 6NM08, lets a key unlock the outside lever and leave it unlocked until keyed again, so staff can hold the door open-access during the day. Storeroom trim keeps the outside lever locked at all times and the key only retracts the latch for momentary entry, which is what healthcare staff-only rooms off a corridor normally want. On the wide escutcheon versions, the 6W08/6W09 and 6WM08/6WM09 include a factory conversion kit to change between the two functions; for access control, the 6W99 electrified storeroom trim is the one to look at.
11) Do I even need outside trim on my panic device?
Only if someone has to get in from outside. An exit-only opening can run bare or take a blank plate, such as the 6N or 6P in function 01. If staff need key access with no handle on the door, the 6C cylinder only trim on night latch function gives you that. Order a lever trim like the 6NM08 when you want a handle plus key control from the corridor side.
