PDQ 6WM08 Wide Escutcheon Mortise Trim, Classroom (Lever)

Outside Trim for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series Exit Devices

Exit device trim is the lever, pull, thumb latch or cylinder on the outside of a door with an exit device. It sets what someone outside can do, such as open the door freely, unlock it with a key, or open it only when the bar is locked down. People inside always leave by pushing the bar.

PDQ's 6-prefix trim is built for the 6300 Series (wide stile) and 6400 Series (narrow stile) exit devices. The line covers narrow escutcheon (6N), wide escutcheon (6W), rose lever (6S), thumb latch (6T), grip pull (6G, 6GW), pull plate (6P) and cylinder only (6C) trim, M-suffix versions for the 6300M mortise device, and the electrified 6W99 for access control.

Key Features

  • Built for PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series exit devices; the 6N, 6G and 6C also fit the narrow stile 6400 Series, and the 6T fits the 6400R and 6400V
  • Non-handed, with a simple door prep: 2-hole bolt pattern on 7" centers or 4-hole pattern on 7" x 1-3/8" centers
  • Functions include exit only, dummy, night latch, classroom, storeroom and passage, plus electrified storeroom on the 6W99 and 6WM99
  • Lever trims come in Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Orlando, Chicago and Los Angeles styles (6S rose trim: Philadelphia, Boston and Miami)
  • The 6W wide escutcheon covers existing holes when retrofitting a door
  • 6W99 electrified trim locks and unlocks from an access control system on 12 to 24 VDC or VAC, ships fail secure and changes to fail safe in the field
  • Thick door options for 2-1/2" to 2-3/4" doors or doors up to 3" (not on 6300M trim), and antimicrobial coating on the 6N, 6W, 6T, 6G and 6P

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need outside trim on a panic bar?
Outside trim is only needed when people must open the door from outside. An exit-only door can go without trim or use a blank or exit only function such as the 6N or 6P in function 01. If staff need key entry with no handle, the 6C cylinder only trim adds a key on the night latch function.

Which 6-prefix trim fits the 6300 and 6400 Series?
The 6300 Series takes the 6N, 6W, 6S, 6T, 6G, 6P and 6C, plus the electrified 6W99. The narrow stile 6400 Series takes the 6N, 6T, 6G and 6C, but the 6T does not fit the 6400C. M-suffix trims (6NM, 6WM, 6GM, 6GWM, 6CM) are for the 6300M mortise device.

What is the difference between the 6N and 6W trim?
The 6N is a narrow escutcheon sized for slim door stiles and fits both 6300 and 6400 devices. The 6W uses a wider escutcheon plate for wide stile 6300 devices and can cover existing holes on a retrofit.

PDQ 6WM08PHL630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ 6WM08 trim work on a 6400 narrow stile exit device?
No. The 6WM08 is an M-suffix trim, which means it is made for the 6300M mortise exit device. The narrow stile 6400 Series takes the 6N, 6T, 6G and 6C trims instead (and the 6T does not fit the 6400C). If you have a mortise 6300M, the 6WM08 is the wide escutcheon classroom lever for it.
2) What does classroom function mean on the 6WM08 lever trim, and can I change it later?
Classroom function means the outside lever is unlocked or locked by key from the outside; once locked, the lever will not retract the latch and people still exit by pushing the bar inside. The 6WM08 ships with a factory conversion kit so it can be changed to storeroom function (and the storeroom 6WM09 converts to classroom), so one part covers both if the room's use changes.
3) Do I need to worry about handing when ordering PDQ 6WM08 escutcheon trim?
No handing to specify. The 6WM08 is non-handed, so the same part works on a left or right hand door. Door prep is a 2-hole bolt pattern on 7 inch centers or a 4-hole pattern on 7 inch by 1-3/8 inch centers.
4) I am replacing old trim and the door has extra holes. Will the 6W wide escutcheon cover them?
That is the main reason to pick the wide escutcheon over the narrow one. The 6W plate is wider than the 6N and covers existing holes when retrofitting a door, which saves patching or replacing the door face. The 6N narrow escutcheon is sized for slim stiles and leaves more of the door exposed.
5) Can I key PDQ 6WM08 classroom trim into my existing Schlage or BEST master key system?
Yes, within a wide keyway list. Conventional cylinder options include Schlage C, Schlage E, Schlage C-K, Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1, Corbin 60, Corbin L4, Russwin D1 and 981, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset, and PDQ Restricted TA. For small format interchangeable core you can order SFIC prep with a 6-pin or 7-pin core, less core, or a construction core, in BEST A through TE keyways or PDQ exclusive PDQ1, PDQ2 and PDQ3. Schlage large format interchangeable core prep is also available with a Schlage core, less core, or construction core. Keying is set as keyed different, keyed alike, or zero bitted.
6) My doors are thicker than standard. Does PDQ 6WM08 mortise trim have a thick door option?
Not on this one. PDQ offers thick door options for 2-1/2 to 2-3/4 inch doors and for doors up to 3 inches, but those options are not available on 6300M mortise trim, which is what the 6WM08 is. For a thicker opening you would need a non-mortise 6-prefix trim that accepts the thick door option.
7) I want the outside lever controlled by a card reader instead of a key. What should I order?
Not the 6WM08, which is a key-operated classroom lever. For access control, PDQ's electrified version is the 6WM99 (or 6W99 on the rim devices): it locks and unlocks from the access control system on 12 to 24 VDC or VAC, ships fail secure and can be field-changed to fail safe. A key still gets you in on the electrified trim, but it does not change the lock state.
8) What do I have to specify when ordering a PDQ 6WM08 trim?
Four things beyond the trim itself: finish, lever style, cylinder type and keyway/keying. Finishes are 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome and 630 satin stainless steel. Lever styles are Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Orlando, Chicago and Los Angeles. A complete part number looks like 6WM08PHL605.
9) Is antimicrobial lever coating available on the 6WM08, and on which finishes?
Antimicrobial coating on tactile surfaces is an option on the 6W trim, and it is limited to the 626 satin chrome and 630 satin stainless steel finishes. Same restriction applies to the weatherized finish option. Useful on healthcare and school corridors where the lever gets constant hand contact.
10) Should I use classroom or storeroom trim on a staff-only room?
Storeroom function for staff-only spaces: the outside lever stays locked at all times and a key retracts the latch for entry, so the door cannot be left unlocked by accident. Classroom function, which is what the 6WM08 is, lets a key unlock the outside lever so it stays free until someone keys it back. Classroom suits teaching spaces that get locked down; storeroom (6WM09) suits healthcare and supply rooms that must stay locked from the corridor.
