PDQ 919133630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does "back to back" mean on the PDQ 9191 push bar, and what do I get?
Back to back means a 1 inch round push bar mounted on each face of the door, sharing the same thru bolt holes, so the opening pushes from either side. The PDQ 9191 is a 1 inch round stainless push bar at 33 inch center-to-center in 630 satin stainless. The same 91 Series bar is also sold as a push bar alone or as a push-pull set pairing the bar with a PDQ 1 inch round straight or offset pull.
2) Will a PDQ 91 Series push bar work on a 1/2 inch glass door?
Glass mounting is covered for the push-pull set only, using decorative thru bolts on 1/2 inch glass doors. The other mounting routes in the 91 Series are standard or decorative thru bolts on 1-3/4 inch metal, composite or wood doors, or concealed mounting on 1-3/4 inch metal or wood doors. If you are putting bars on glass, order the push-pull set with the decorative glass mounting.
3) If I want a pull on the outside instead of a second push bar, what pull options pair with the PDQ 91 Series bar?
The push-pull set pairs the 1 inch round push bar with a PDQ 1 inch round straight pull at 8 inch CTC, an ADA straight pull at 8, 10 or 12 inch CTC, or a 1 inch round offset pull at 10 inch CTC. That is the configuration to use on a pull-side entrance; the back to back version is for openings that push from both directions.
4) Do I need to choose heavy duty fasteners when ordering the PDQ 9191?
Fasteners are a required selection: Standard or HD, which are 5/16 inch heavy duty fasteners. The HD option is worth taking on high traffic entrances or doors where the bar sees abuse, since the thru bolt is what carries the load on a back to back set.
5) Can the PDQ 91 Series push bar be mounted without visible bolts on the face?
Yes, concealed mounting is one of the push-pull set options, offered for 1-3/4 inch metal doors and for 1-3/4 inch composite or wood doors. If you want the fasteners seen but dressed up, there is also a decorative thru bolt option. Concealed is the choice where the push side face has to stay clean.
6) What finish does the PDQ 9191 come in, and will it match other stainless door hardware?
One finish: 630 satin stainless steel, which is the brushed stainless standard used across most commercial push plates, pulls and exit trim. If the rest of the openings in the building are 630 or US32D brushed stainless, the bar will read the same.
7) Is the PDQ 9191 push bar rated for commercial traffic?
It is a commercial product: 1 inch round stainless steel bar, thru bolted through the door, and classified for commercial rather than residential use. Thru bolting is why it holds up on storefront and institutional entrances, the load goes through the door rather than into sheet metal screws, and the 5/16 inch HD fastener option is there for the heaviest openings.
