The Blade Stop Spacer shims PDQ parallel arm brackets to clear a 1/2" blade stop. When a Blade Stop Spacer is used in a narrow frame application, the NFB Narrow Frame Bracket must also be used.

Which arms are for parallel arm mounting only?
PDQ lists the Extra Duty Arm, Door Saver Arm, Door Saver Hold Open Arm and Extra Duty Arm Hold Open as parallel arm (PA) applications only. The Regular Arm and Hold Open Arm can be mounted regular, top jamb or parallel arm, with a parallel arm bracket required for PA mounting.

1) What does the PDQ 999001 parallel arm bracket do, and when do I need one?
The 999001 is the soffit bracket that lets a PDQ closer arm mount parallel to the door face, under the frame soffit, rather than on the pull side. PDQ requires a parallel arm bracket whenever you mount a Regular Arm or Hold Open Arm in the PA position. It is the non hold open version, so it does not add a hold open function to the closer.
2) Which PDQ door closers does the 999001 bracket fit?
PDQ lists part 999001 under the 5100, 5300 and 5500 Series closers. It is a genuine PDQ part, so if your closer is one of those three series the bracket is the correct PA bracket for it. For a 7100 or 3100 closer, order the bracket PDQ lists under that series instead.
3) Do I need a hold open bracket instead if the door has to stay propped?
The 999001 will not hold the door open. Hold open on a PDQ closer comes from the arm, not this bracket, so you would specify a Hold Open Arm, a Door Saver Hold Open Arm, or an Extra Duty Arm Hold Open. The 999001 is still the bracket you use for PA mounting with a Hold Open Arm.
4) My frame has a 1/2 inch blade stop. Will the 999001 parallel arm bracket clear it?
Not on its own. PDQ's Blade Stop Spacer shims the parallel arm bracket to clear a 1/2 inch blade stop, so order that spacer along with the bracket. If the opening is also a narrow frame, PDQ requires the NFB Narrow Frame Bracket with the spacer.
5) Do I need a parallel arm bracket if I'm using a PDQ Extra Duty or Door Saver arm?
Those arms are parallel arm applications only. PDQ lists the Extra Duty Arm, Door Saver Arm, Door Saver Hold Open Arm and Extra Duty Arm Hold Open as PA only, so they mount off a parallel arm bracket such as the 999001. The Regular Arm and Hold Open Arm are the flexible ones, mountable regular, top jamb or PA.
6) What finish should I order to match the closers already on my building's doors?
The 999001 bracket comes in seven PDQ finishes: 605 bright brass, 625 bright chrome, 626 satin chrome, 689 aluminum, 693 black, 695 duro bronze and 696 gold. Match the suffix on the closer already installed, 689 aluminum and 695 duro bronze being the usual commercial choices. The full part number carries the finish, for example 999001689.
7) Will a parallel arm bracket alone solve a closer that won't clear an obstruction above the door?
Not always. The 999001 moves the arm to the PA position under the soffit, which is what you want when the pull side is obstructed or exposed. If the frame has a blade stop or is a narrow frame, you also need the Blade Stop Spacer and the NFB Narrow Frame Bracket. If the issue is mounting room on the door or frame face, PDQ also lists back plates and top jamb and parallel arm drop plates for those conditions.
