PDQ GT165 Grade 1 Dormitory / Corridor Cylindrical Lever Lock

Grade 1 Heavy Duty Commercial Cylindrical Lock

The PDQ GT165 is the Dormitory / Corridor function (ANSI/BHMA F90) of the PDQ GT Series Grade 1 Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ GT Series is a Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical lock certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2. PDQ positions it as its general purpose Grade 1 lock for everyday commercial exterior and interior openings, with lever torque resistance of 2,200 lbf-in, three times the BHMA/ANSI standard, and cycle testing to over 3 times BHMA standards.

A heavy duty diecast chassis, machined billet steel spindles and a 13 gauge steel anti-rotation plate on the secure side give the lock its strength. A 2:1 latchbolt throw allows a 41 degree lever rotation, which reduces torque and extends the life of the lock. The GT is non-handed, assembled in Lancaster, PA, and offered in Philadelphia, Boston and Miami lever styles.

Is the GT fire rated and ADA compliant?
Yes. The GT is UL 10C listed for 3 hour fire doors (single doors up to 4' x 8') and complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1.

Can the GT be used on hurricane rated openings in Florida?
Yes. It is approved for Florida HVHZ installations under PDQ Product Approval FL 21376, with a design load rating of +/- 70.0 PSF on a 3' x 7' single door.

PDQ GT165BSN626D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Dormitory / Corridor function on the PDQ GT165 actually do at the door?
The GT165 is the ANSI/BHMA F90 dormitory/corridor function. It is a single cylinder lock: the outside lever is locked or unlocked by key only, and the inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. That makes it the right pick for a corridor or dorm room door where staff want key control of the outside lever and no thumbturn for a resident to leave unlocked.
2) Will the PDQ GT165 fit a 2 inch thick door, or only 1-3/4 inch?
Doors from 1-3/4 inch up to 2-1/4 inch thick are covered, so a 2 inch door is fine. The lock ships preset for 1-3/4 inch, so thicker doors need the chassis adjusted at install. It mounts to the standard ANSI A156.115 (161) cylindrical prep and thru-bolts through the door.
3) Do I need to order the GT165 left hand or right hand?
No handing to specify. The GT165 cylindrical lever lock is non-handed, so one part number covers left and right hand openings and you can stock a single configuration across a building.
4) Can I key the PDQ GT165 into my existing Schlage master key system?
Yes. SCC (Schlage C) is the standard keyway, and Schlage E, Schlage C-K are also available, along with Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1 / 60 / L4, Russwin D1, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset (5-pin only), and PDQ's restricted TA keyway. Keying options include keyed different, keyed alike in several group sizes, master keyed, master keyed to existing bittings, construction master keyed, and 0-bitted with two blank keys. Each lock ships with two keys.
5) Can I use my Best or Falcon small format interchangeable cores in the GT165?
Yes. The keyed GT functions accept 6 or 7-pin small format IC cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow, and you can order SFIC prep with a 6-pin core, 7-pin core, brass or plastic construction core, or less core if you are supplying your own. If you run Schlage large format cores instead, LFIC prep is offered on the Philadelphia lever only, with a Schlage core, a construction core, or less core. Conventional cylinder and less cylinder are also options.
6) Is the PDQ GT165 approved for a 3 hour fire rated corridor door?
Yes. The GT165 is UL 10C listed for 3 hour fire doors on single doors up to 4 feet by 8 feet, and the Dormitory/Corridor function keeps the inside lever always free for egress. It also complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1, and is certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1.
7) What lock does the PDQ GT165 replace if my spec calls for a Schlage ND73 or Sargent 10G54?
PDQ lists the GT165 as the cross reference for Best 9KxxT, Corbin CL3375, Dorma C173, Falcon T571, Hager 3473, Marks T, Sargent 10G54, Schlage ND73 and Accentra 5422LN. All of those are the dormitory/corridor function in a Grade 1 cylindrical lock, and the GT165 uses the same 161 cylindrical prep, so it swaps into an existing bored opening.
8) Is the PDQ GT lock heavy duty enough for a high school corridor?
The GT is PDQ's general purpose Grade 1 heavy duty cylindrical lock, with 2,200 lbf-in of lever torque resistance (three times the BHMA/ANSI standard) and cycle testing to over three times BHMA standards. It is built for standard to heavy commercial traffic in schools, offices and retail. For openings facing extreme abuse or vandalism, PDQ steps up to the XGT at 3,000 lbf-in.
9) What is the 41 degree lever rotation on the PDQ GT, and does it change on a pair of doors?
The 2:1 latchbolt throw lets the lever rotate only 41 degrees to retract the latch with the 2-3/4 inch backset, which cuts the torque on the chassis and extends lock life. With the 2-3/4 inch latch used for double doors the rotation is 65 degrees. Either way it is a lever, so it meets ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1 operation requirements.
10) Which lever styles and finishes does the PDQ GT165 come in, and do they have to match side to side?
Three lever styles, Philadelphia, Boston and Miami, all solid diecast, on a 3-3/8 inch diameter wrought brass rose with concealed screws. Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. They do not have to match: the SF split finish option lets you run one finish outside and another inside, designating the outside trim first. Note LFIC prep is only offered with the Philadelphia lever.
11) Can the PDQ GT165 be used on an exterior door in a Florida hurricane zone?
Yes. The GT is approved for Florida HVHZ installations under PDQ Product Approval FL 21376, with a design load of +/- 70.0 PSF on a 3 by 7 foot single door. For coastal exposure, the weatherized finish option is available, and it is offered on 626 satin chrome only.
12) Does the PDQ GT165 have any options for healthcare or imaging rooms?
Two that matter for those facilities. An antimicrobial coating (AM) covers the lever set including inside and outside levers and roses, and it is available on 626 satin chrome only. For x-ray and imaging suites, a lead-lined rose (LL) is an ordering option. A tactile abrasive coating is also available, inside only, outside only, or both sides, for marking hazardous-area doors.
13) Can the PDQ GT165 signal an access control panel when someone exits?
Yes, with the REX (request to exit) option, which reports inside lever rotation back to a panel. An industry standard Molex connector (ISMC) can be specified for the wiring termination. The lock itself is mechanical, not electrified, so REX is monitoring only, it does not lock or unlock the lever electrically.
14) What do I have to specify when ordering a PDQ GT165?
At minimum: lever style (Philadelphia, Boston or Miami), finish, cylinder or core prep, backset (234 or 238), strike (ASA, full lip or T-strike), keyway and keying. Optional add-ons are antimicrobial coating, weatherized finish, lead-lined rose, dust box, tactile abrasive coating, split finishes, request to exit and Molex connector. Each combination gets its own PDQ part number, for example GT165PHL605D.
