PDQ XGT165 Grade 1 Dormitory / Corridor Cylindrical Lever Lock

Grade 1 Extra Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock

The PDQ XGT165 is the Dormitory / Corridor function (ANSI/BHMA F90) of the PDQ XGT Series Grade 1 Extra Heavy Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ XGT Series is an extra heavy duty cylindrical lock certified to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1 and cycle tested to over 3 times the BHMA standard. A 2:1 latch bolt throw allows a 41 degree lever rotation with the 2-3/4" backset, which reduces torque and lengthens the life of the lock.

XGT is the step up from the GT Series for doors that face heavy abuse, with 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque resistance and a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate. It is assembled in Lancaster, PA.

Key Features

  • Heavy duty diecast chassis with investment cast, cold rolled steel and stainless steel mechanism
  • 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate for added stability
  • 3,000 lbf-in lever torque resistance, about 4 times the ANSI/BHMA standard
  • Solid diecast Philadelphia, Boston or Miami levers on 3-3/8" wrought brass roses with concealed screws
  • Non-handed; fits doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick with through-bolted mounting and a standard ANSI A156.115 (161) prep
  • Keyed functions take a Schlage C compatible conventional cylinder, small format IC cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow, or Schlage large format IC cores (Philadelphia lever only)
  • UL 10C listed for 3-hour fire doors, single doors up to 4' x 8', and approved for the Florida High Velocity Hurricane Zone
  • Complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1; Limited Lifetime Warranty on the mechanical lock

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the PDQ XGT and GT cylindrical locks?
Both are ANSI/BHMA Grade 1. XGT is rated for 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque resistance, about 4 times the ANSI/BHMA standard, versus 2,200 lbf-in for GT. XGT also uses a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate and is cycle tested to over 3 times BHMA standards.

Is the XGT lock fire rated?
Yes. XGT is UL listed for 3-hour fire doors on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0", meeting UL 10C requirements.

What door thicknesses and backsets fit the XGT lock?
XGT fits doors 1-3/4" to 2-1/4" thick (preset for 1-3/4") with a 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" backset, and it is non-handed, so one unit installs on any door hand.

PDQ XGT165BSN626L – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How does the PDQ XGT165 dormitory/corridor function actually work on a door?
The XGT165 is the ANSI/BHMA F90 dormitory/corridor function. It takes a single cylinder on the outside, so the outside lever is locked or unlocked by key only and the inside lever always retracts the latch for free egress. That is the usual choice for dorm room doors and corridor openings where staff control locking at the key and occupants are never locked in.
2) Will the PDQ XGT165 fit a 2-inch thick door, or only 1-3/4 inch?
It covers 1-3/4 inch through 2-1/4 inch doors and ships preset for 1-3/4 inch, so a 2 inch door is within range and just needs the lock adjusted at install. Mounting is through-bolted, and the prep is the standard ANSI A156.115 (161) cylindrical prep, so an existing 161 bore takes it without new machining.
3) Do I need to order a left-hand and right-hand version of the XGT165 lever lock?
No. The XGT165 is non-handed, so one unit installs on any door hand. For a property manager stocking spares across a building, that means a single part number covers every opening regardless of swing.
4) Can I key the PDQ XGT165 into my existing Schlage or Best master key system?
Yes, in several ways. Keyed versions take a Schlage C compatible conventional cylinder (SCC is standard), small format interchangeable cores compatible with Best, Falcon and Arrow, or Schlage large format IC cores (Philadelphia lever only). Keyways offered include Schlage C, C-K and E, Arrow AR1, Corbin 59A1, 60 and L4, Russwin D1, Sargent LA and RA-RC, Accentra (Yale) E1R and GA, Falcon E-R, Kwikset 5-pin, and PDQ restricted TA. Keying options run from keyed different and 0-bitted to KA2, KA4, KA, master keyed, master keyed to existing bittings, and construction master keyed.
5) Is the XGT165 approved for a 3-hour fire rated opening?
Fire rated, yes. It is UL 10C listed for 3-hour fire doors on single doors up to 4 ft by 8 ft. Larger leaves or pairs fall outside that listing.
6) What do I have to specify when ordering a PDQ XGT165 lever lock?
Each configuration carries its own PDQ part number, for example XGT165PHL605D. At minimum you pick lever style (Philadelphia, Boston or Miami), finish, cylinder arrangement (conventional, less cylinder, SFIC prep with 6-pin or 7-pin core, SFIC less core, SFIC with construction or plastic construction core, or Schlage LFIC with core, less core, or construction core), backset, strike, keyway and keying. Optional add-ons include tactile abrasive coating (inside, outside, or both), split finishes, lead-lined rose, dust box, antimicrobial coating, request to exit, an industry standard Molex connector, and a weatherized finish.
7) Should I spec the PDQ XGT or the GT cylindrical lock for a high-abuse stairwell door?
Both are ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1, so the difference is abuse resistance. XGT resists 3,000 lbf-in of lever torque versus 2,200 lbf-in on GT, adds a 13-gauge steel anti-rotation plate, and is cycle tested to over 3 times BHMA standards. For stairwells, high-traffic exterior entries, and anywhere vandalism is a real risk, XGT is the step up. On ordinary interior office or classroom traffic the GT is the lighter-duty answer.
8) Which finishes does the PDQ XGT165 come in, and can I match the other hardware in the building?
Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome, and 626 satin chrome. If the corridor side and room side need to differ, the SF split finish option lets you specify two (designate outside trim first, then inside). Antimicrobial coating and the weatherized finish are both restricted to 626 satin chrome.
9) Does the XGT165 lever meet ADA requirements for a barrier-free opening?
Yes. The lever design complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1. The 2:1 latch bolt throw also means only a 41 degree lever rotation at the 2-3/4 inch backset, which cuts the torque a user has to apply. If you need tactile warning on a hazardous-area door, the TC1IS, TC1OS or TC2 abrasive coating options add it to one or both levers.
10) Can the PDQ XGT165 be used on an exterior door in a Florida hurricane zone?
It is approved for the Florida High Velocity Hurricane Zone under PDQ Product Approval FL 21376, with a design load of plus/minus 70.0 PSF on a single 3 ft by 7 ft door. For coastal exposure, the weatherized finish option is available in 626 satin chrome.
11) Can I use the XGT165 on a pair of doors or an X-ray room door?
For double doors, specify the 2-3/4 inch latch arrangement that gives 65 degree lever rotation rather than the standard 41 degree. For imaging and radiology rooms, the LL lead-lined rose option is available. Note the UL 3-hour fire listing covers single doors up to 4 ft by 8 ft only.
12) Is the XGT165 an electrified lock, and what are the REX and Molex options for?
The XGT165 itself is a mechanical lock, not electronic. The REX option adds a request-to-exit switch that signals an access control system when the inside lever is turned, and ISMC supplies an industry standard Molex connector for terminating that wiring. Both are ordering options, not included by default.
13) What is included with each PDQ XGT165 lock, and what is the rose size?
Each lock ships with two keys when supplied keyed. The trim is a solid diecast lever on a 3-3/8 inch diameter wrought brass rose with concealed screws, and the faceplate is 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inch stainless steel or wrought brass, beveled 1/8 inch in 2 inches. A dust box for the strike pocket is a separate option (DB) if your frame needs one.
