PDQ HSC806 High Security SFIC Core, 6-Pin

PDQ High Security Cylinders, Cores and Cams

PDQ High Security cylinders and cores add mechanical barriers that a standard pin tumbler core does not have, resisting drilling, picking and casual key copying. The family covers key in knob/lever cylinders, mortise/rim combo and mortise cylinders, small format (SFIC) and large format Schlage compatible (LFIC) interchangeable cores, and high security cams for the mortise cylinders.

Two levels are offered. Standard High Security cylinders use two hardened anti-drill pins and a proprietary PDQ keyway with a sidebar. High Security cylinders and cores use a minimum of 11 anti-drill and stainless steel pins. Because the sidebar keyway blank is not a standard retail key wall profile, duplication is limited to controlled sources.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a cylinder core high security instead of standard?
PDQ High Security cores add hardened anti-drill pins plus a proprietary keyway with a sidebar, mechanical barriers a standard pin tumbler core does not have. A standard core relies on the pin stack alone.

Which PDQ products do the high security cores work with?
PDQ lists them as compatible with its GP, SD and CL Series Grade 2 locks, KV Series deadbolts, and trim including 6T thumb latches, 4P plate pulls, 4GW grip pulls and 6S rose trim.

Is PDQ High Security the same as the VAULT keying system?
No. High Security is a proprietary sidebar keyway with hardened anti-drill pins in a familiar cylinder format. VAULT is a separate PDQ platform built around a patented tapered gate (U.S. Patent #12338653).

PDQ HSC806626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ HSC806 drop into my existing small format interchangeable core housings?
The HSC806 is a 6-pin small format interchangeable core (SFIC), so it seats in SFIC figure-eight housings. PDQ lists it as compatible with its GP, SD and CL Series Grade 2 locks, KV Series deadbolts, and trim including 6T thumb latches, 4P plate pulls, 4GW grip pulls and 6S rose trim. One caution on PDQ's own LFIC mortise and rim housings: those are large format and do not include an IC core, so they take the LFIC Schlage compatible core, not this one.
2) What do I have to specify when ordering a PDQ HSC806 core?
Two things. Finish, which is 626 satin chrome, and keying, which is a required selection: KD keyed different, KA keyed alike, or MK master keyed with a master keying charge. There is no 0-bitted option on PDQ High Security, so the core ships cut to the keying you choose, with the keying charge and 2 cut keys included.
3) Can my locksmith cut extra keys for a PDQ High Security core?
Not from a retail key wall. The HSC806 uses a proprietary PDQ sidebar keyway whose blank is not a standard profile, and PDQ does not sell key blanks for its high security cylinders, so duplication stays with controlled sources. Plan on ordering keys through PDQ rather than cutting locally, and order the quantity you need up front; each core ships with 2 cut keys.
4) What makes the HSC806 more secure than a standard SFIC core?
Two added mechanical barriers. The High Security level uses a minimum of 11 anti-drill and stainless steel pins, and the keyway carries a sidebar that acts as a second locking element independent of the pin stack. A standard pin tumbler core relies on the pin stack alone, which is what makes it easy to pick and easy to copy. For reference, PDQ's Standard High Security level is a lighter build: 2 hardened anti-drill pins with the sidebar keyway.
5) Should I use a 6-pin or 7-pin SFIC core for my building?
PDQ offers the High Security SFIC in both 6-pin and 7-pin; the HSC806 is the 6-pin. Six pins is the normal choice for a standard master keyed building. Go to 7-pin when you need the extra chamber for a deeper hierarchy, typically a grand master or multi-level system across a large campus. Mixing pin counts in one system is not something to do casually, so match whatever the rest of your SFIC cores already use.
6) Is the PDQ High Security core the same thing as PDQ VAULT?
No, they are separate platforms. High Security, which is what the HSC806 is, is a proprietary sidebar keyway with hardened anti-drill pins in a familiar cylinder format. VAULT is built around a patented tapered gate under U.S. Patent #12338653. Keys and keying systems do not cross between the two, so standardize a facility on one or the other.
7) Can I master key PDQ HSC806 cores across a facility and add more later?
Yes. Master keyed is one of the three keying selections (MK, with a master keying charge), alongside keyed different and keyed alike, so a building can run a master system with individual change keys per door. Because the keyway is proprietary and blanks are not sold publicly, expansion cores have to be ordered keyed into the existing system rather than pinned up locally. Record your system details at the first order.
8) Where does a high security core like this actually earn its cost?
Openings where unauthorized key copying or a drill attack is the real threat: server and data rooms, evidence and records storage, pharmacy or narcotics cabinets, and exterior perimeter entries. The HSC806 is a commercial-duty core, not a residential part. On interior offices and closets in the same building, a standard SFIC core keyed to the same system is usually the sensible split.
9) Does the HSC806 come in finishes other than satin chrome?
Satin chrome, 626, is the finish the HSC806 core is built in. That is normal for interchangeable cores, since the visible face is small and 626 reads as a neutral match against brushed and satin trim. If the lever or trim finish needs to match something else, that is specified on the lock or trim, not on the core.
