PDQ IK3112626 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the PDQ IK3112 drawer lock come with a core and key?
No. The IK3112 ships with no core and no key. It takes a small format interchangeable core (SFIC), 6-pin or 7-pin, which you order separately. Budget for a core per lock, and if you want these cabinets on the same key system as the building doors, pull cores from the same SFIC keyway you already use on the door hardware.
2) Can I key PDQ IK Series cabinet locks to the same system as my building's door hardware?
That is the point of the IK Series. Because the locks accept standard SFIC 6-pin or 7-pin cores, cabinets, drawers and sliding glass doors can run on the same core system as the building's door hardware. One master key, one keyway, and cores can be swapped by the facility locksmith without pulling the lock body.
3) Is the IK3112 a drawer lock or a plunger lock, and which PDQ IK model should I use for a sliding glass display case?
The IK3112 is the cam-style drawer lock in the IK Series, used on drawers and on wood or metal wardrobe doors. It is not the plunger lock and not the sliding glass door lock. The IK Series also includes a multi-purpose plunger drawer lock, a sliding glass door lock with concealed through-bolt fixing (all fixings provided), and drawer locks with a deadbolt or latchbolt. For a sliding glass display case, the IK sliding glass door lock is the right member of the family, not the IK3112.
4) What finishes does the PDQ IK3112 come in, and how do the part numbers work?
Three finishes: 622 Flat Black, 625 Bright Chrome and 626 Satin Chrome. The finish code tacks onto the model, so the satin chrome lock is IK3112626, bright chrome is IK3112625 and flat black is IK3112622. Satin chrome (626) is the usual match for US26D door hardware already in a commercial building.
5) I need the key to stay in the lock when it's unlocked for a shared tool cabinet. Does the IK3112 do that?
Key retention is a feature of the IK Series multi-purpose plunger drawer lock, which switches between key-retaining and non-key-retaining with a set screw. If that behaviour is what you need, specify the plunger model rather than the IK3112 drawer lock.
6) Which PDQ IK lock do I use for a NEMA traffic signal control cabinet?
For NEMA traffic light control boxes, PDQ lists the IK deadbolt drawer locks. Those have a brass lock body and are offered in IH, VH, LH and RH locking directions, so you can match the bolt direction to the cabinet door swing. The IK3112 drawer lock is aimed at drawers and wardrobe doors instead.
7) Do I have to specify a locking direction or handing when ordering the PDQ IK3112?
Finish is the only choice on the IK3112, with three options. Locking direction is a specification on the IK deadbolt and latchbolt drawer locks, which come in IH (inverted), VH (vertical), LH and RH. If your drawer or cabinet needs a specific bolt direction, you are looking at one of those models.
8) Is the PDQ IK3112 rated for commercial use, and what is the bolt made of on the IK latchbolt models?
PDQ lists the IK3112 as commercial door hardware. Within the family, the latchbolt drawer locks use a stainless steel bolt and the deadbolt versions use a brass lock body, which is why the deadbolt models get specified for outdoor control cabinets.
