PDQ SF176 Grade 2 Privacy Cylindrical Lever Lock

Grade 2 Standard Duty Cylindrical Lock

The PDQ SF176 is the Privacy function (ANSI/BHMA F76) of the PDQ SF Series Grade 2 Standard Duty Cylindrical Lock.

The PDQ SF Series is a cost-focused ANSI/BHMA Grade 2 cylindrical lock for multi-family housing, senior living, student housing and light commercial projects. It fits standard 160 and 161 door preps with no additional thru-bolt and offers privacy, passage, entrance, storeroom and single dummy functions.

The SF uses a heavy-gauge cold rolled steel chassis, dichromated for corrosion resistance, and shares its levers with the PDQ SD and CL Series for a matching look across a building. It carries a three year limited warranty.

PDQ SF176PHL626 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ SF176 privacy lever fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or is it only for 1-3/4?
The SF176 covers 1-3/8 inch through 1-3/4 inch doors and ships preset for 1-3/4 inch, so a thinner door needs the chassis adjusted down at install. It drops into a standard 160 or 161 bored prep with no additional thru-bolt required.
2) Do I have to order the SF176 privacy lock left or right hand?
No handing to specify. The SF176 is non-handed, so one part number works on either swing and you can stock a single configuration for a whole building.
3) Can the PDQ SF176 go on a fire rated door?
Only if you order it with the UL fixed backset latchbolt. Configured that way the SF is UL/cUL 10C listed for 3-hour fire doors, on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0". The standard adjustable 2-3/8 to 2-3/4 inch latch supplied on non-keyed functions like this privacy lock is not fire rated, so picking it rules the opening out.
4) Will the SF176 privacy lever match the keyed locks already on the other doors in my building?
Yes, visually. The SF shares its lever designs with the PDQ SD and CL Series, so a privacy lever on a bathroom door matches the entry or storeroom locks in the same corridor. Five lever styles are offered, Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Memphis and Orlando, on either a 2-9/16 inch round rose or a 2-15/16 inch square rose.
5) What does the F76 privacy function actually do on a bathroom or bedroom door?
F76 is the ANSI/BHMA privacy function: the lever locks from inside, with no key and no cylinder. The SF176 is non-keyed by design, which is why it suits bathrooms, bedrooms and resident unit interior doors rather than any opening that needs key control.
6) Is a Grade 2 lock like the PDQ SF176 enough for apartment traffic?
The SF Series is ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 2 standard duty, aimed at multi-family, senior living, student housing and light commercial work. For unit interior doors, bathrooms and bedrooms, that is the normal specification. For high traffic entry doors or heavy institutional corridors you would step up to a Grade 1 cylindrical lock instead.
7) What finishes does the PDQ SF176 come in, and can I mix finishes inside and out?
Seven finishes: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 613E dark oxidized satin bronze, 619 satin nickel, 622 flat black, 625 bright chrome and 626 satin chrome. If you want a different finish on each side of the door, order the SF split finish option; otherwise the option selection is None.
8) Does the PDQ SF176 lever meet ADA requirements for accessible doors?
Yes. The SF Series complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1, and the lever handle itself is the accessible operable part, no tight grasping or wrist twisting. It is also TAA compliant with country of origin KR, which matters on federal and institutional purchases.
9) What has to be specified when ordering a PDQ SF176, beyond finish?
Five decisions make the part number: lever style, rose style (round or square), finish, latch, and strike, plus the split finish option if you need it. A typical configuration reads SF176PHL605. Because this is a non-keyed privacy function there is no keyway, cylinder or keying to specify.
10) How is the SF176 built for a damp bathroom or coastal building?
The chassis is heavy-gauge cold rolled steel, dichromated for corrosion resistance, with solid diecast levers on wrought brass roses and concealed rose screws. The latch front is a 1 inch face with 1/4 inch radius, and a square corner filler is included to fill out to a 1-1/8 inch prep.
