PDQ TJ126 Passage Tubular Lever Lock

Tubular Lever Lock with Stainless Steel Trim

The PDQ TJ126 is the Passage function (ANSI/BHMA F75) of the PDQ TJ Series Tubular Trim Suite Lock.

The PDQ TJ Series is a tubular lock for non-keyed interior functions: communicating, passage, privacy, double dummy and single dummy. A tubular lock installs through cross bores in the door rather than a pocket cut into the door edge, making for a simpler installation than a mortise lock.

The TJ is styled to coordinate with PDQ's MR Series mortise locks, sharing the same sectional rose diameter and lever designs, so one lever look can run across a project. Its levers and roses are investment cast stainless steel, offered with a round or square rose in ten lever designs, and the lock carries a five year limited warranty (except ball knob).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the TJ levers be matched to PDQ mortise locks?
Yes. The TJ uses the same lever styles and sectional rose diameter as the PDQ MR Series mortise lock, so a project can use TJ on interior passage and privacy doors and MR mortise locks elsewhere with a matching lever design.

Does the TJ have a keyed function?
No. The TJ is offered in communicating, passage, privacy, double dummy and single dummy functions only, with no keyed entry function.

What is the communicating function used for?
It is used on doors that connect two adjoining rooms, such as hotel connecting rooms, letting either side lock the door from its own room.

PDQ TJ126PHL630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the PDQ TJ126 passage lever fit a 1-3/8 inch interior door?
Yes. The TJ126 covers doors from 1-3/8 inches (35mm) up to 1-3/4 inches (44mm), so it handles both older residential interior doors and standard commercial leaf thickness without a different kit.
2) What backset and door prep does the PDQ TJ126 need?
Default is a 2-3/4 inch (70mm) backset using ANSI 115.2 Type 161 prep, with a 1-1/8 inch faceplate. A 2-3/8 inch (60mm) backset is available instead and uses Type 160 prep with a 1 inch faceplate filler. Backset is a required selection when you order, so pick the one that matches the cross bore and edge bore already in the door.
3) Do I have to specify handing on a PDQ TJ126?
For most lever designs, no. The TJ126 is non-handed, so one lock works on a left or right hand door. The exception is the Memphis lever, which is handed. Orlando, Los Angeles and Houston are handed only on the 211 single dummy function, not on the 126 passage. Handing is still a required pick on the order form, so select Non-Handed unless you are ordering Memphis.
4) Can I match the TJ126 levers to the mortise locks on the rest of the project?
Yes. The TJ shares lever designs and the same sectional rose diameter with PDQ's MR Series mortise locks, so passage and privacy doors can run the TJ while entry and classroom doors run MR mortise locks with the same lever look. Ten designs are offered: Philadelphia, Boston, Miami, Chicago, Houston, Memphis, Orlando, Los Angeles, Dallas and Ball Knob.
5) Is the PDQ TJ126 ADA compliant?
The TJ126 complies with ADA and ICC/ANSI A117.1 in its lever configurations. The Ball Knob option is excluded, since a round knob is not an ADA-acceptable operable part. If the opening is on an accessible route, order a lever design, not the ball knob.
6) Which strike comes with the TJ126, and can I get an ASA strike to match my existing frame?
Full lip strike is the default. T-strike and ASA strike are both available instead, and strike is a required choice at order. If you are going into a hollow metal frame already prepped for ASA, pick the ASA option so the existing cutout is covered.
7) Should I use a tubular lock like the TJ126 or a mortise lock on interior doors?
A tubular lock installs through cross bores drilled in the door face and edge, which is a much simpler prep than cutting a pocket into the door edge for a mortise case. For non-keyed interior openings (passage, privacy, communicating, dummy) the TJ gets you there with less labor. Where you need keyed entry or heavier-duty function, go to a mortise lock such as the PDQ MR Series, which the TJ is styled to coordinate with.
8) How do I write the part number for a specific TJ126 configuration?
PDQ builds the number from model, lever design and finish. A Philadelphia lever in bright brass is TJ126PHL605. Beyond lever and finish you also select rose style, backset, handing and strike when ordering.
9) What rose shapes and sizes does the TJ126 come in?
Two: a round rose 2-3/8 inches in diameter and a square rose at 2-9/16 inches. Both are investment cast stainless steel, same as the levers. Check the rose footprint against any existing wear ring or paint shadow on the door if you are replacing older trim.
10) What finishes can I get the PDQ TJ126 passage lever in?
Seven: 605 Bright Brass, 606 Satin Brass, 612 Satin Bronze, 613E Dark Oxidized Satin Bronze, 622 Flat Black, 629 Bright Stainless Steel and 630 Satin Stainless Steel. For multi-family turns, 630 satin stainless is the usual standardization choice because it hides wear and matches most commercial trim already on site.
11) Is the TJ126 rated for commercial use or is it residential trim?
It is classed commercial. The levers and roses are investment cast stainless steel, and typical applications are high-end residential, multi-family and offices, so it holds up on apartment interior doors and office suites rather than being a builder-grade residential set.
