Watts WLPP-1.5SCH80-PIPE10FT – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Watts Whiteline WLPP-1.5SCH80-PIPE10FT sold as a single 10 foot stick of 1-1/2 inch pipe?
Correct. Watts part WLPP-1.5SCH80-PIPE10FT is a 1-1/2 inch Whiteline polypropylene high purity process pipe in a 10 foot length, Schedule 80 wall. One model is offered, so quantity is a matter of how many 10 foot lengths you order for the run.
2) Will 1-1/2 inch Schedule 80 polypropylene pipe fit Schedule 40 fittings of the same size?
Size wise, yes on outside diameter. Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 share the same OD at a given nominal size, so 1-1/2 inch Schedule 80 PP has the same 1.900 inch OD as 1-1/2 inch Schedule 40. Schedule 80 has the thicker wall and smaller bore. What actually decides compatibility on a high purity PP system is the joining method and the fitting material, so match the Whiteline PP fittings to the pipe rather than mixing it into a different thermoplastic system.
3) What is Watts Whiteline PP pipe made of, and where does polypropylene get used instead of PVC or CPVC?
It is polypropylene (PP), sold under the Watts Whiteline name for high purity process piping. Buyers spec PP process pipe for deionized and high purity water and for chemical waste handling in labs, pharma and semiconductor work, where a PVC or CPVC system is not the right material for the fluid being carried. If you are running ordinary domestic water or DWV, this is not the product for that job.
4) Why choose Schedule 80 over Schedule 40 for a process piping run?
Schedule 80 is the heavier wall of the two at the same nominal size, which is what engineers spec when the line carries higher pressure, sees mechanical abuse, or is a process line the plant cannot afford to have fail. The trade off is a smaller inside diameter, so a Schedule 80 run has more friction loss than Schedule 40 at the same 1-1/2 inch nominal size. If the drawing calls out Schedule 80 PP, substituting Schedule 40 is not an equal.
5) What is the Watts manufacturer part number for 1-1/2 inch Whiteline Schedule 80 PP pipe in 10 foot lengths?
Order it as Watts WLPP-1.5SCH80-PIPE10FT. The number reads directly: WLPP for Whiteline polypropylene, 1.5 for the nominal size, SCH80 for the wall schedule, and PIPE10FT for the 10 foot stick. Distributors cross referencing a submittal should match all four parts of that string, since the same Whiteline family is built in other sizes and schedules.
