Pro-Lok AO-28 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Pro-Lok AO-28 Fat car opening tool used for?
The AO-28 Fat is a long reach car opening tool from Pro-Lok, used by locksmiths and roadside service techs to reach inside a vehicle past the window glass and manipulate the interior lock control. It is built as a slide lock tool, meaning it is intended for the horizontal slide-style lock controls found on many door panels rather than vertical knob-style posts.
2) Will the Pro-Lok AO-28 work on a car with a vertical pull-up lock knob?
Not the right tool for that. The AO-28 Fat is a slide lock tool, shaped to work the horizontal slide lock controls mounted in the door panel or armrest. For a vertical post or knob on the window sill you want a lasso-style or hook-tipped opening tool instead. Checking which control the vehicle uses before you reach in saves a wasted attempt.
3) Which Pro-Lok model number is the Fat multi-car opening tool?
It is ordered as Pro-Lok model AO-28. There is a single configuration, so no handing, length, or finish choice to specify when you order it.
4) Is the Pro-Lok AO-28 a professional grade tool or a consumer kit item?
Pro-Lok classes the AO-28 as commercial automotive tooling, aimed at locksmiths, fleet service shops, and roadside assistance operations that open a range of vehicles rather than one. The "multi-car" design is why the blade is fat: it is meant to cover a spread of door panel geometries instead of being cut for a single make.
