1) What does the Pro-Lok LT340 I/C rekey tool actually do for interchangeable core work?
The LT340 combines three bench jobs into one fixture: it holds an interchangeable core so you can decode it, dump the whole pin stack out of it, or rekey it. The chamber cap and retainer sleeve staking feature is what holds the cylinder while you work and gives you a place to dump the pins as they come out, so you can read the stack in order instead of chasing pins across the bench.
2) What comes in the box with the Pro-Lok LT340, and what do I have to order separately?
You get the tool body, a removable inspection plug, a chamber cap staking plate, a sleeve retainer staking plate, and the holding knobs. Three companion tools are not included and are ordered on their own: the LT341 ejector pin, the LT342 staking pin, and the LT350 plug holder. If you plan to push plugs and stake caps rather than just decode, budget for the LT341 and LT342 with the tool.
3) Is the LT340 a rekeying tool or a decoding tool? I already have a pinning kit.
Both, and it does not replace a pinning kit. The LT340 is the holding and dumping fixture: it secures the core, lets you drop the existing pin stack out in a controlled way to read the bitting, and holds the core while you build the new stack. Your pinning kit still supplies the pins and springs. If all you ever do is decode, the same tool covers it, but the staking plates for the chamber cap and sleeve retainer are there for full rekey and reassembly work.
4) Do I need the Pro-Lok LT350 plug holder if I buy the LT340?
Not to use the LT340 itself, which ships complete with the body, inspection plug, both staking plates, and the holding knobs. The LT350 plug holder is an optional companion sold separately, as are the LT341 ejector pin and LT342 staking pin. Locksmiths doing volume core work usually add them; someone dumping and decoding an occasional core can start with the LT340 alone.
5) What is the removable inspection plug on the Pro-Lok LT340 for?
The inspection plug pulls out so you can see into the tool while a core is held in it, which is how you confirm what dropped out of each chamber during a dump rather than guessing at the stack. It is part of the standard kit, not an add-on.
6) Is there only one model of the Pro-Lok I/C rekey and dump tool?
One model, the LT340. There are no size, finish, or handing choices to make. The decisions are on the accessories: ejector pin LT341, staking pin LT342, and plug holder LT350, each sold on its own.
