Pro-Lok - Key Decoder – KW1,SC1,WK1 & WE1

The Pro-Lok KD01 decoder is cut for four keyways: KW1, SC1, WK1 and WE1. That covers Kwikset, Schlage, Weiser and Weslock keys on one tool, which is the bulk of the residential and light commercial work a locksmith or property maintenance tech sees in a day. If you work a different keyway, such as a Yale or Arrow section, this one will not read it.

A decoder reads the existing depths on a cut key so you can write down the bitting, then re-key a cylinder to match or cut a new key to that code. The KD01 handles the reading and code-cutting reference side for KW1, SC1, WK1 and WE1. You still need pinning kit and a cutting machine or a code cutter to produce the finished key; the decoder tells you what to cut, it does not cut it.

The Sure Stop steps are machined stops that seat the key at a fixed position for each depth, so you read the cut against a positive stop rather than eyeballing a scale. That is what makes the decoding and code-cutting process repeatable on the KW1, SC1, WK1 and WE1 sections rather than a judgement call.

It is made from heavy duty stainless steel, so the reference edges hold their dimension under repeated use and it takes being carried loose in a service bag without corroding. That matters on a decoder more than on most hand tools, since a worn or pitted step gives you a wrong depth reading.
