Pro-Lok K105-D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will these key caps fit large head keys, or only standard bows?
They fit both. The cap is soft rubber and slip-fits over most standard and large head keys, so it stretches onto a wider bow rather than needing a matched size. No tools, no split ring, just push it on.
2) What colors do Pro-Lok Happy Face key identifiers come in?
The Pro-Lok solid happy face key identifiers come as a mixed assortment of green, blue, purple, pink and yellow. That gives you five color codes to work with, which is enough to separate keys by building, floor, or tenant type on a master key ring without reading the bow stamping every time.
3) How many key identifiers do I get, and is there a bulk option for a locksmith shop?
Two pack formats. The retail configuration is 5 cards with 6 identifiers per card, 30 total. For shop or route use there is a plastic drum of 200 identifiers, which is the one to order if you are tagging a whole building's worth of keys or selling them off the counter.
4) Do these key caps work for color coding a property manager's master key system?
That is exactly what they are for. Slip a different color onto each key group, green for common areas, blue for mechanical rooms, and so on, and a tech can pick the right key off the ring by sight. Five colors in the assortment means five groups before you have to double up. They cover the head of the key only, so the blade and keyway are untouched and the key still operates normally.
5) Is this a solid color cap or the printed happy face style?
This is the solid version, model K105-D, from Pro-Lok. The cap is one solid color per identifier rather than a printed or two-tone face, so identification is by color alone.
6) Will a key still go into the lock with one of these caps on it?
Yes. The identifier caps the bow, which is the part you grip, and leaves the blade and cuts fully exposed. Since it is a slip-fit rubber cap rather than a full key jacket, it also pulls off if you ever need to duplicate or stamp the key.
