Generac RG03824ANAX – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Generac RG03824ANAX 38 kW Protector QS generator run on natural gas, or does it need propane?
Either one. The RG03824ANAX is rated 38 kW on liquid propane and 38 kW on natural gas, so you get the same output on either fuel and no derate for choosing NG. It ties into the building's existing LP or natural gas supply and starts automatically within seconds of a utility outage, so no fuel tank fills or manual start.
2) Is the 38 kW Protector QS single-phase or three-phase?
Single-phase, 120/240 V. That makes the RG03824ANAX a fit for residential and light commercial services on a standard single-phase panel. If the building is on a three-phase service (common in larger commercial and institutional buildings), this is the wrong unit and you need a three-phase model instead.
3) How much does the Generac RG03824ANAX weigh, and what do I need to plan for setting it?
1,333 lbs assembled. That is past two-man handling, so plan on equipment to set it and a pad rated for the load. Freight also has restrictions flagged on it, so treat it as a curbside machine delivery rather than a parcel item.
4) Can a 38 kW standby generator be installed in a coastal or salt-air location?
Yes, and that is what the enclosure is for. The Protector QS 38 kW comes standard with an aluminum all-weather enclosure for corrosion resistance, and Generac recommends it for salt-air and coastal sites. No upgrade order needed to get the aluminum housing.
5) Will a standby generator this size run computers, elevators controls and other sensitive electronics safely?
True Power Technology on the RG03824ANAX holds total harmonic distortion under 5 percent. Under 5 percent THD is the threshold normally specified for sensitive electronic loads, so servers, controls, VFD front ends and medical or office equipment can be carried without the waveform problems a cheaper alternator gives you.
6) Can I monitor a Generac Protector generator remotely across multiple properties?
Mobile Link connectivity is standard on the Protector Series, including the 38 kW QS, so status can be checked from a phone, tablet or PC from anywhere. For a property manager or MRO group running units at several sites, that means exercise results and fault conditions come to you instead of requiring a site visit. At the machine itself, the Evolution Controller gives a two-line multilingual LCD with backlit color-coded buttons, readable through an external viewing window without opening the enclosure.
7) How loud is the weekly self-test on the Protector QS, and will it bother tenants?
Quiet-Test runs the weekly exercise at a reduced 1800 RPM rather than full speed, which cuts the noise of the self-test along with the fuel it burns and the wear on the engine and alternator. For multi-family and hospitality sites where the exercise cycle is the only time neighbors ever hear the machine, that is the feature that matters.
8) What is the exact model number for the 38 kW Generac Protector QS, and where is it built?
Order it as Generac RG03824ANAX, the Protector QS 38 kW LP / 38 kW NG standby unit. Country of origin is the United States, which is the answer government, healthcare and education buyers need when domestic-preference language is in the spec.
9) Does the Generac RG03824ANAX carry a California Prop 65 birth defect warning?
No. The 38 kW Protector QS is recorded as not containing chemicals that cause birth defects under California Proposition 65, which is the line institutional and government purchasing groups in California ask about before a PO clears.
