1) Does the RAB 4 inch wafer downlight need a recessed housing or can it go in a shallow ceiling?
It's a wafer-style LED downlight, so there's no can required. The LED module is flat enough to sit in the ceiling cavity with the junction box mounted alongside it, which is why wafers get used in retrofit work over ceilings that won't take a housing. Fits a standard 4 inch ceiling opening, runs on 120V, and draws 0.10A at that voltage.
2) What do I have to specify when ordering the RAB WFRL4 wafer light?
Three choices. Shape, round or square. Trim, baffle or smooth. Wattage, 9W or 10.5W. Note that 10.5W only comes in round (WFRL4R10.59FA120WB baffle, WFRL4R10.59FA120WS smooth). If you want a square trim, it's 9W: WFRL4S99FA120WB baffle or WFRL4S99FA120WS smooth. Color temperature is not an ordering choice because CCT is selectable at the fixture.
3) Will the RAB WFRL4 run on 277V in a commercial building?
No. It's a 120V fixture only. If your lighting branch circuits are 277V, this one won't work and you'll need a 277V or universal-voltage downlight instead.
4) I'm relamping a whole building to one color temperature. Does selectable CCT help or hurt?
It helps if you're standardizing. One part number covers every color temperature you might want, so a property manager or MRO buyer stocks a single item and sets each fixture to match the corridor, unit, or lobby it's going into.
