RAB HAZPLED26C-G – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can the RAB HAZPLED26 hazardous location light run on 277V, or do I need a different model?
One fixture covers the common commercial voltages. The HAZPLED26 draws 0.25A at 120V, 0.13A at 208V, 0.12A at 240V and 0.11A at 277V, so you order the same part whatever of those four you have on the wall. Total input is 27.4 watts on a constant current driver. For panel loading, figure the amp draw at your actual voltage rather than dividing watts by volts.
2) Which RAB HAZPLED26 part number do I order for a frosted flat lens with a wire guard?
That combination is HAZPLED26FF-G. The numbering runs: C for clear globe, CF clear flat lens, F frosted globe, FF frosted flat lens, then no suffix for no guard, -G for wire guard and -DG for die cast guard. So a clear globe with a die cast guard is HAZPLED26C-DG, and a plain clear globe with no guard is HAZPLED26C. All twelve combinations of the four lens styles and three guard choices are built.
3) Should I pick the globe or the flat lens on the RAB HAZPLED26?
A globe throws light in all directions including up and sideways, which suits an open ceiling or a wall bracket in a bay where you want some spill onto surrounding surfaces. The flat lens concentrates output downward, which is what you want over a walkway, a stair, or equipment you need to see at floor level. Both are offered clear or frosted on the HAZPLED26: clear gives you maximum delivered light, frosted diffuses it and cuts the hot spot where workers look toward the fixture.
4) Do I need the guard on a hazardous location wall light, and what is the difference between the wire guard and the die cast guard?
The guard is there to protect the globe or lens from impact, so it earns its place anywhere a forklift, hose stream, cart or tool can reach the fixture: loading docks, pump rooms, paint booths, maintenance bays. The wire guard (-G) is an open cage that blocks strikes while letting nearly all the light through. The die cast guard (-DG) is a heavier cast metal cage for harder knocks, and it blocks more of the beam. In a stairwell or ceiling-height location nobody can touch, the no-guard version is fine.
5) How does the RAB HAZPLED26 compare to the incandescent or CFL hazardous location bracket light I am replacing?
At 26 watts of LED load and 27.4 watts total input, it does the job a 100W-class incandescent vapor-tight fixture used to do, with no lamp to change. Rated life is 100,000 hours, which for a 24/7 mechanical room is over eleven years of continuous burn, so the relamping trips that drive the cost of a hazardous location fixture largely go away. Light output is 5000K, a cool white that reads closer to daylight than the yellow of an incandescent globe, so expect the space to look noticeably different after a swap.
6) Can the lamp in the RAB HAZPLED26 be replaced later, or is the whole fixture throwaway?
It is an integrated LED fixture, not a lamp holder. There is no socket and no bulb to stock, and the LED board runs off a constant current driver inside the housing, rated to 100,000 hours. For an MRO storeroom that means you carry no replacement lamps for it, but when the fixture does reach end of life you replace the fixture.
7) If I am standardizing hazardous location lighting across a plant, will all the RAB HAZPLED26 fixtures match?
Yes, all twelve versions share the same gray finish and the same 5000K color temperature, so a mix of globes, flat lenses and guards across one building still reads as one family and one light color. That lets you vary the optic and the guard by location (flat lens over walkways, globe in open bays, die cast guard only where equipment can hit it) without ending up with mismatched color on the wall.
