1) Will the RACO 127 octagon box accept 3/4 in. EMT, or only 1/2 in.?
Both. The RACO 127 has four 1/2 in. and four 3/4 in. knockouts, so you can run either trade size into it and mix the two on the same box. It is built for conduit as the wiring method, not cable clamps.
2) How do I mount a RACO 127 box if it has no bracket?
The 127 ships with no bracket, so it mounts through the holes in the box body or by the conduit itself. Electricians typically screw it directly to a stud face, joist, or ceiling pan, or support it off rigid conduit runs. If you need a box that nails to the side of a stud at a set depth, order a bracketed octagon instead.
3) Can I use the RACO 127 with NM (Romex) cable?
Not as supplied. The 127 is specified for conduit wiring and has knockouts only, with no built-in cable clamps. If you are running NM cable you either need a box with integral clamps or you add listed cable connectors in the knockouts where that is permitted by your inspector.
4) Is a 4 in. 1-1/2 in. deep octagon box deep enough for a ceiling light fixture?
The RACO 127 is a 4 in. octagon at 1-1/2 in. depth, which is the deeper of the two common octagon depths (the other being 1/2 in. shallow pans) and is the usual choice for ceiling and wall lighting outlets where fixture wires and conduit conductors have to be folded back into the box. For heavy or paddle-fan loads you need a box and support specifically rated for that, not a standard octagon.
5) Does the RACO 127 have a ground screw provision?
It has a raised ground, an integrated boss in the box body for landing the equipment grounding conductor. That is what you want on a conduit job where the box is part of the grounding path and you still need a solid point to bond fixture and device grounds.
6) Is the RACO 127 box approved for commercial work?
The 127 is UL Listed and intended for commercial as well as residential conduit wiring systems, used as an outlet box, junction box, or lighting outlet box. Facility and MRO buyers standardizing octagon boxes across a building can spec it by part number 127.
7) Does a cover come with the RACO 127 octagon box?
No cover or fixture plate is included. The 127 is the box only, so plan on ordering a 4 in. octagon blank cover, round fixture cover, or extension ring separately to match the finish of the opening.
