1) Will the RACO 238 box mount to metal stud framing?
That's exactly what it's built for. The RACO 238 carries an MS bracket from the BOX-LOC Series, made for metal studs, and it sets the box face flush for the finished wall. If you're framing with wood studs, you want a different bracket style instead of the MS.
2) What conduit sizes can I run into the RACO 238?
Knockouts are 1/2 inch, plus five combination TKO knockouts that open to either 1/2 or 3/4 inch. There are nine 1/2 inch KOs in total, so you have entries on the sides and back for 1/2 inch EMT and the option to step up to 3/4 inch where a bigger raceway lands.
3) Can I use the RACO 238 with NM cable (Romex)?
No. The 238 is configured as a conduit box, with plain knockouts and no cable clamps. For NM cable you need a box with integral cable clamps or you have to use listed connectors in the knockouts where the installation permits it.
4) Is the RACO 238 a welded box or a drawn box, and does that matter?
Welded. The body is formed and welded rather than drawn from one piece, which is the construction normally specified for conduit work because welded boxes accept more knockouts in the walls and corners than a drawn box can.
