1) Will the RCI 3590 Lock N Prox read a card through a wood cabinet door or drawer front?
Yes, up to 1 inch (25mm) of wood, with no external antenna needed. That is what makes the 3590 workable on drawer backs, leaf doors and cabinet fronts where the reader has to sit behind the wood rather than on the face of it. Past an inch of material, or through metal, don't count on it.
2) How much holding force does the RCI 3590 Lock N Prox have, and is that enough for a secure storage cabinet?
140 lbf on the 3590. That suits cabinets, drawers, leaf doors and sliding doors where the pin is holding a light door closed rather than resisting a determined pull. For higher security storage RCI rates the 3590A at 450 lbf. If the opening is a loss-prevention cabinet someone may pry on, the 450 lbf version is the one to specify.
3) What size is the RCI 3590 Lock N Prox and will it fit in a shallow cabinet?
The unit measures 2-3/8 x 2-3/8 x 7/8 inches (60 x 60 x 22mm). The 7/8 inch depth is the number that decides a shallow cabinet or drawer back, so measure your clearance against that, and leave room to get at the battery later.
