RCI RCI-B4704-32D – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the RCI B4704-32D faceplate fit my existing electric strike, or do I need to know the series first?
Series first, always. The B4704-32D is cut for RCI 4 Series and 7 Series electric strikes. If the strike in your frame is an HES, Folger Adam, or any other brand, this plate will not drop in. Pull the existing plate, confirm the RCI series stamped on the strike body or in the job's access control submittal, then order to that.
2) What size is the RCI B4704 faceplate and will it cover my existing frame cutout?
The plate measures 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inches with round corners. That 4-7/8 inch face length is the short plate, so it covers a frame prepped for a 4-7/8 inch strike cutout only. If your frame was cut for a longer plate (the 9 inch ANSI prep is the other common one), this one leaves the pocket exposed and you need the longer faceplate instead.
3) Are the corners on this RCI 4-7/8 inch strike plate square or radius?
Round corners. That matters because frame preps are cut one way or the other: a radius plate will not sit flat in a squared pocket, and a square plate leaves gaps at the corners of a radiused one. Look at the cutout in your frame before ordering, not just at the old plate.
4) I need a faceplate for a fire-rated door opening - which electric strike faceplates carry a fire rating?
Among the strike faceplate families, HES lists a fire rating on the 1006 Series faceplates and on the Folger Adam 310-4 Series faceplates. The HES 5000/5200 Series and HES 7000 Series faceplates are not fire rated. If the opening is a labeled fire door, work from a 1006 or 310-4 Series strike and its matching faceplate rather than trying to adapt a faceplate from a non-rated family, since the rating belongs to the strike and faceplate as an assembly.
5) The existing faceplate cutout in my frame has square corners - can I use a round-corner faceplate instead?
Not without changing the prep. The RCI faceplate is a 1-1/4 inch by 4-7/8 inch round-corner plate, and round-corner and square-corner plates are not interchangeable in an existing cutout - one leaves a gap at the corners, the other will not drop in. Where a frame cutout does not match, the HES faceplate families each publish specialty faceplates alongside the standard plate, which is where an oversized or differently shaped plate to cover an existing opening normally comes from: the 1006 Series, the Folger Adam 310-4 Series, the 5000/5200 Series, and the 7000 Series accessory groups.
6) What finish is the RCI B4704-32D faceplate and will it match my other door hardware?
32D, satin stainless steel. It is the standard commercial finish, so it lines up with satin stainless levers, push plates, and hinges on the same opening, and it is the usual match for HES and Folger Adam strike plates already in a building. Against bright chrome (26) or a brass finish it will read visibly duller.
7) Do I get any wiring or hardware with the RCI B4704-32D, or is it the plate only?
Plate only. It is a replacement faceplate, not a strike, so there is no keeper, solenoid, wiring harness, or transformer with it. If the strike body itself has failed, the plate will not fix it and you need a complete 4 or 7 Series unit. Mounting follows the strike's own installation instructions, which RCI publishes for the parent device.
8) Is the RCI B4704 faceplate rated for commercial use or is it a residential part?
Commercial.
