1) How do I know if I need the left hand Record USA HA8-LP operator or the right hand version?
The HA8-LP low profile operator is handed, and this one is built left handed with pull side mounting. Stand outside the door on the side it swings away from you: if the hinges are on your left, it's a left hand opening. Because the unit is pull side mounted, the header and slide track arm go on the side the door pulls toward, meaning the operator sits on the same side the door swings open to. Order the opposite hand if your opening reads right.
2) Can the Record USA HA8-LP tie into my card reader and mag lock system?
Yes. There's a built in strike and mag lock relay on board that can be set fail safe or fail secure, so it drops or holds the lock according to how your egress plan is written. Activation devices and safety sensors land on separate inputs, and the operator is built to integrate with building access and security systems. For an integrator, that means no separate relay module just to sequence the lock with the door.
3) Why choose the low profile HA8-LP over Record's standard profile operator?
Same motor and gear package, smaller header. The low profile version exists for openings where there isn't enough vertical clearance above the door for a full size header, such as transoms, low soffits, or a tight frame head. If you have the clearance, the standard profile does the same job. Pick the LP when the space, not the performance, is the constraint.
4) Is a slide track arm or a push arm right for this door operator?
This HA8-LP ships with the slide track arm as standard, which is the correct pairing for pull side mounting: the arm rides in a track across the door face rather than projecting out on a linkage. Slide track keeps projection tight and is the usual choice where an arm sticking into the opening would be a hazard or a code issue. Push arms belong on push side installations, which is a different configuration of this operator.
5) Will a low energy operator like this hold up on a high traffic building entrance?
It's built for commercial duty, not residential. The drive uses high precision gears in a machined alloy gearbox housing with permanent lubrication, running off a 1/8 HP motor, and Record lists it for hospitals, retail, schools and universities, airports, convention centers, casinos, industrial buildings and offices.
