Cutting capacity runs up to Brinell 300 / Rockwell C31 on soft and medium materials, and up to Brinell 400 / Rockwell C42 on hard materials. The blade is forged alloy tool steel, precision ground. Hardened rod inside those hardness limits is fine; anything harder than Rockwell C42 is beyond the blade.
4) Can I use this bolt cutter head on electrical cable or wire rope?
No. Klein states plainly that this cutter is not for cutting cable. Use a dedicated cable cutter instead; cable strands will deform and ruin the ground edges on a bolt cutter blade. The head is also NOT insulated and will not protect against electrical shock, so it must never be used on energized conductors.
5) Do the cutting edges need to be aligned after installing a new bolt cutter head?
Alignment is handled with a single adjustment that realigns both cutting edges. If the jaws start passing rather than meeting squarely after use, that same one adjustment brings them back, which is what keeps the blade life out of the tool rather than throwing it away.
