Klein Tools 7 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Are the Klein 07 climbing gaffs tree gaffs or pole gaffs?
These are tree gaffs. The Klein 07 replacement gaff is the 2-3/4 inch (70 mm) tree climbing gaff, the longer cutting spike meant for biting into bark and softer wood. Pole gaffs are shorter and are the wrong choice for trees; if you are climbing wood utility poles, you want a pole gaff instead of this one.
2) Which Klein climbers do the 07 replacement gaffs fit?
The 07 gaffs are the ones supplied with the Klein 1907AR series climbers, so that is the set they are made to replace. Nothing else is stated as a fit, so treat the 1907AR series as the match.
3) Do I get one gaff or two, and do the mounting screws come with them?
Sold in pairs only, so one order covers both climbers. The pair ships with the gaffs, the TORX screws and the wrench to drive them, so you are not hunting for a separate driver to do the swap.
4) When should a climber replace the gaffs rather than just sharpen them?
Gaffs are a wear item: each sharpening takes metal off, and once the spike is short of its original 2-3/4 inch tree length or the point has been filed back past a clean taper, it stops biting reliably and gets swapped. Klein sells the 07 as a pair with the TORX screws and wrench so the change-out is done on both climbers at once, keeping your left and right gaffs at matched length.
5) What is the exact part number to order Klein replacement tree gaffs?
The Klein Tools catalogue number is 7, sold and listed as the 07 replacement tree climbing gaff. One order equals one pair.
6) Where are Klein 07 climbing gaffs made?
Made in the USA. Klein calls out U.S. manufacture on the 07 gaff for durability, which matters on a part carrying a climber's full weight on a single spike.
7) How much do a pair of Klein 07 gaffs weigh and how big is the package?
A pair runs 0.72 lbs, with package dimensions of 6.3 x 5.4 x 1.35 inches. Light enough to keep a spare pair in the truck or the climbing bag for a field swap.
