Generac RG02224JNAX – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How much output does the RG02224JNAX Generac standby generator produce, and what current does it deliver?
Rated at 22,000 watts (22 kW) with a current rating of 76 A. Use the 76 A figure when sizing the transfer switch and feeders rather than back-calculating from the kW number.
2) Is this Generac generator approved for installation in the South Coast air district in California?
Yes, the RG02224JNAX is the SCAQMD compliant build of the 22/22 kW 1800 rpm Protector unit. That is the reason to specify this model number over the standard version if the job is inside the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
3) Will a Generac RG02224JNAX hold up installed near the coast?
That's what the aluminum enclosure is for. Generac specifies the aluminum housing on this unit as corrosion resistant for homes in coastal and salt-water environments. The frame underneath is steel and the finish is grey.
4) What listings and certifications does the Generac 22 kW Protector carry?
UL Listed, CSA Certified, and ETL Listed. Those are the ones an AHJ or a facility procurement reviewer will ask for at plan check.
5) Why is this Generac rated 1800 rpm instead of 3600, and is it quieter?
1800 rpm is the liquid-cooled Protector Series engine speed, and slower engine speed is the main reason these run quieter than a 3600 rpm air-cooled unit. Generac also builds in Quiet-Test, which drops the weekly self-test to a lower RPM, and that test can be set to run weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
6) Can I monitor a Generac Protector 22 kW remotely, and what does the controller display?
Mobile Link connectivity comes standard on Protector Series units, so status can be checked from a phone, tablet or PC. On the machine itself the Evolution controller has a two-line multilingual LCD with color-coded backlit buttons, plus USB flash capability, smart battery charging and voltage adjustment. For a property manager running several sites, that remote status is what keeps the weekly test from needing a truck roll.
7) Is the power from this Generac clean enough for sensitive electronics and computer loads?
True Power technology on this unit holds total harmonic distortion under 5 percent, which is the threshold generally used for running sensitive electronics, variable speed equipment and appliances off a generator.
8) Is the Generac RG02224JNAX made in the USA, and does it carry a Prop 65 warning?
Country of origin is the United States, and the record shows no Prop 65 birth defect chemical warning and no shipping restrictions on the unit. That matters on government and institutional bids where domestic origin has to be documented.
