Rittal 3171100 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Rittal 3171100 filter mat fit a 3239 series filter fan?
Yes. The 3171100 fleece filter mat is the genuine Rittal replacement media for Model No. 3239- filter fan systems, made as a direct-fit mat for that series. If your fan housing carries a 3239 model number, this is the mat it takes.
2) Can I use a generic cut-to-fit filter media instead of the genuine Rittal mat?
Rittal states that performance data, protection category and device approvals on its cooling equipment are only guaranteed when original Rittal filter mats are used. If you have to hold a rated protection category on the enclosure, a generic mat puts that in question. The 3171100 is the OEM media for 3239 filter fans.
3) How many filter mats come in a pack of Rittal 3171100?
Five mats per packaging unit. That is the order quantity, so a maintenance crew stocking spares for several enclosures gets a cycle of replacements in one order rather than buying singles.
4) Is the 3171100 only for filter fans, or does it work on Rittal roof fans and thermoelectric coolers too?
It is the filter version intended for filter fans, and Rittal also lists it for use with roof fans and thermoelectric coolers. The fit point is the 3239- series filter fan systems, so match the equipment model before ordering.
5) What does the filter mat in an enclosure fan actually protect against?
Airborne dirt, dust and water. On a filter fan the mat sits in the incoming airstream, so everything the fan pulls into the cabinet passes through it first, keeping it off terminals, drives and controls. A loaded mat chokes airflow and drives cabinet temperature up, which is why these are replaced on a schedule rather than when they fail.
