Rockwood 464 Heavy Duty Door Stop

It does both. The 464 is supplied with a holder and catch, so the door can be swung against it and held open rather than just bumped and released. That is the difference between it and a plain dome bumper: a dome stop only arrests the swing.

If the door bottom clears 3-1/4 inches, the 464 will not make contact and you need a taller riser. A gooseneck stop reaches up from the floor to catch the door face well above bumper height: the Orca Hardware 22HD Series gooseneck floor stop is a door holder rated for 1-3/8 or 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Delaney Gooseneck Floor Door Stop and Emtek 2253 goose style stop are the same shape. Gooseneck models do project further into the walkway.

It is a commercial-duty floor stop. Rockwood rates the 464 for the maximum protection needed on heavily used doors, and Rockwood hardware of this type goes into institutional buildings, offices, retail, schools, detention, sports facilities, and hotels. For a light residential interior door you would be over-buying; something like the Emtek 2251 half dome stop or the Delaney Dome Door Stop is the lighter-duty shape.

The 464 is a heavy duty stop with a lag-bolt-and-shield anchor, and Rockwood hardware of this class is used in detention facilities, so it holds up to abuse. But it is not a security-specific design. Where tamper resistance is the driving requirement, the Ives FS18S/FS18L security floor stop is the purpose-built option in that duty class.

Not directly. The Ives FS13 and FS17 are heavy duty brass floor dome stops, and a dome stop arrests the swing without holding the door. The 464 comes with a holder and catch, so swapping to it adds hold-open the old stop did not have. It also mounts on its own anchor pattern (a 1/2 x 4-1/2 inch lag with shield, or two #8 SMS), so plan on drilling fresh rather than reusing the existing hole. If you only want the door stopped and nothing more, the dome stops are the closer match to what you have.

The Ives FS17 heavy duty brass floor dome stop with rubber bumper and the Delaney Dome Stop both stop the swing without a hold-open, and the Emtek 2251 Half Dome Door Stop is the same idea in a half dome profile. The Rockwood 464 is a heavy duty stop for heavily used doors that is supplied with a holder and catch, so it does both jobs from one anchor point. On an interior door that only needs to be kept off the wall, a plain dome stop covers it; on a door that gets propped open daily, the 464 gives you the catch.

Satin chrome, ordered as 626 (the same finish as US26D). It is the standard commercial finish, so it matches satin chrome lever trim, closers, and push plates already on most institutional openings. That is the only finish the 464 is built in, so if the rest of your openings are brass or bronze you are matching a different family.

The bumper is a flame resistant high impact material, which is what lets it take repeated strikes on a heavily used door without splitting. That flame resistant bumper is also the reason this style shows up on openings where the surrounding hardware has to meet a facility's material requirements.

The 464 is a satin chrome commercial stop with a functional cap, not a design piece. For a finished residential or hospitality interior, the solid brass options read very differently: the Deltana UFBD3505 is a 3-1/2 inch round decorative floor bumper, the Deltana UFBP4505 is a 1-5/8 inch round bumper with a pattern cap, and the Deltana UFBS138 is a 1-3/8 inch square bumper. Those are bumpers only, though, with no hold-open catch like the 464 has.
