Rockwood 860 Flush Cup Pull, 2-1/2" Diameter

Two #4 x 5/8 inch oval head wood screws ship with each 860 pull. That fastener is sized for wood doors. The pull mounts into a recessed cup, so you have to bore and mortise the face for it first, and Rockwood publishes an installation template for the layout. If you are going into a hollow metal or mineral core door, the supplied wood screws will not hold and you will need to source your own fasteners for that substrate.

It is a commercial-grade pull and it carries ANSI A156.14, type B02201, which is the BHMA standard covering sliding and folding door hardware. Rockwood pulls of this type are used in institutional buildings, offices, retail, educational, detention, sports facilities, hotels and restaurants. If you are standardizing pocket door hardware across a facility, the 860 gives you one part number in two finishes.

Just a pull. The 860 is a flush cup with no latch, no lock and no privacy function. If the pocket door needs to lock or hold shut, you need a separate pocket door lock or edge pull ordered alongside it. For a residential pocket door where you want a matched pull set for passage or dummy use, the Baldwin Estate 8601 pocket door pull is the decorative alternative in that family.

The Rockwood 860 is a commercial flush cup pull meeting ANSI A156.14, B02201, and it is used across institutional buildings including detention facilities. It is not built as a ligature-resistant product, though. Where the specification calls for ligature resistance on a patient room or behavioral health door, the ABH 1911 series flush door pull is designed for that condition. Specify the 860 for general institutional openings and the ABH 1911 where the anti-ligature requirement is on the drawing.

A plain cup pull like the Rockwood 860 gives you a recessed finger cup and nothing that projects, which is what you want on the door face but not always enough to draw a pocket door back out of the wall. For that, the Trimco 1066/1067/1068 drop-ring flush pulls carry a ring that lies flat in the recess and swings out to give the hand something to hook. Two finishes: 613 satin bronze oil rubbed and 630 satin stainless steel. 630 is the standard commercial finish and will sit next to most stainless push plates, hinges and levers on an institutional opening. 613 is the dark oiled bronze look for warmer interiors. The pull body is brass or stainless steel depending on the finish you pick.

The Rockwood 860 mounts with two #4 x 5/8 inch oval head wood screws into a prepared recess in the door face. Where the prep is the obstacle, the Trimco 1059 is a drive-in flush cup pull, which is set into a bored hole rather than a routed mortise. The Trimco 1060/1061 flush cup pulls use a conventional cup pull prep like the 860. Pick the drive-in style when the door can be bored on site and the standard cup style when the prep is being done at the shop.

The Rockwood 860 is a flush cup pull only. It gives the hand a recessed grip and does nothing to secure the door. Buyers sometimes take it for a pocket door lock because it sits in the same opening, but a passage or privacy function has to come from a separate device. The Baldwin Estate 8601 pocket door pull is likewise a passage and dummy product, so it does not add a locking function either. If the door needs to latch or lock, the pull is an accessory to that device rather than a substitute for it.

Brass is the base material, with stainless steel used for the 630 satin stainless version. Both are solid metal cups rather than plated pot metal, which is why they turn up on offices, retail, education and hotel openings where a pull gets used all day.
