2) How does the BF687 mount, and does it come with screws?
Mechanical fastening is the standard method and the hardware is included: four #6 x 5/8 inch oval head sheet metal screws. Those go into the wall face, not the door leaf, on the latch side of the opening. If you cannot or do not want to drill, the sign is also offered with self-adhesive mounting, ordered as the SA option.
3) I need to sign both restrooms in my building. Does the Rockwood BF687 cover the women's room too?
No. The BF687 in blue is the "Men" sign only, one legend per plate. You'll need to order the matching women's legend separately from the same BF Series to keep the material, character height and mounting hardware consistent across the two openings. Property managers standardizing a whole floor should order all legends from the one series for that reason.
4) When should I order the SA self-adhesive version of the Rockwood BF687 instead of the screw-mount one?
Go self-adhesive (the SA option) when you can't put screws in the substrate, glass, tile, glazed block, a finished panel you don't want to perforate, or a wall you'd have to patch on removal. Screw mounting with the supplied #6 x 5/8 inch oval head sheet metal screws is the better call on high-traffic or vandal-prone openings, since an adhesive sign can be pried off. Same sign either way; only the attachment changes.
5) What is the difference between Rockwood's plastic ADA signs and their metal ones?
The plastic version, which is what the BF687 is, uses raised characters plus Grade 2 Braille on .125 inch non-glare plastic and is offered in color finishes such as blue. Rockwood's metal signs instead carry raised black lettering with the Grade 2 Braille on an architectural metal finish, so they match adjacent door hardware. Both carry the Braille translation; the choice is appearance and budget, not compliance content.
6) Is the Rockwood BF687 sign mounted on the door itself?
It's not a door-applied sign in the usual install. Permanent room identification signage like this goes on the wall adjacent to the latch side of the door, so a person can touch-read the Braille without the door swinging away from them. That is why the sign ships with wall-type fasteners, four #6 x 5/8 inch oval head sheet metal screws, rather than through-bolts for a door leaf.
